I don't see in account settings the option to select cash or security for money market holdings in my various Fidelity accounts

This is not the same. I have been using the overview for upcoming transactions for years. It is the most important thing in Quicken to me. To be able to see everything for the next seven days at a glance. This functionality is gone. I know I can get the same info in other places, but the format is different. WHY do you think it is a good idea to ruin something has worked perfectly fine for years. Please bring the overview tab back.

@JoeyMaggard For the past year, the old Overview tab has popped up an alert message that it would be going away in a future release, so this shouldn't be coming as any surprise. The quick budget glance was the missing piece which didn't exist anywhere else, and with this release, they added a budget card in the dashboard.

I have been using the overview for upcoming transactions for years. It is the most important thing in Quicken to me. To be able to see everything for the next seven days at a glance.

I'm not sure I understand what about the old Overview tab you'd be missing; to me, it seems like everything from the Overview now exists in other places. You mentioned the part of the Overview page which showed Upcoming Bills & Income for the next 7 days. Well, this exists in Quicken Mac on the main Bills & Income tab. Is there a reason that does not work for you?

@compusol @Bob. The setting is on the Downloads window, not the Settings window. (It was suggested by a number of people during testing that this wasn't intuitive, but I guess the developers felt otherwise. 😉 )

Also be aware that not every financial institution or every money market fund shows up supporting a user choice of whether to treat it as cash or a security; it depends on how the financial institution configures its downloads to Quicken.

Thanks @jacobs but I am not sure what you are referring to as a "downloads" window?? AHHHH. It was hidden there. You have scroll a window that does not look like it should scroll!!!!

And now I am unsure what setting to check to get my gov money market to bring in interest as reinv div rather than div and buy!

So set like this, each MM shows the proper balance. But I ALWAYS have to edit the interest that comes in to FZCXX from DIV and BUY to just REINV to keep things correct.

So now, what shall I be doing for my desired result? The description does not seem to work as they say. I can explain if needed.

Yes it is in the bills and income section, but from there you can't click on a transaction to go to it in the register (to update amount, change the date, etc.) Apparently, you can in the bills and income widget on the dashboard, but it is not displayed as compactly as the overview tab. Also, though sorted by date, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to how it is sorted within the same date, where the overview tab was sorted alphabetically within the same date. I just don't like having to re-learn how to use Quicken every six months or so because they removed features. I don't feel like removing features is an upgrade. Are there instructions somewhere on how to un-upgrade? The only one I found has a dead link for the old software versions page.

that is probably the best alternative, although it is still not as useful for me. BTW, since you asked earlier, this is what it looked like:

I kept the upcoming bills and income set to 7 days and could see them all on one screen. Clicking on one would take you to that transaction in its register so you could edit or mark it as paid. This was my Home Screen so when I opened Q I could see a weeks worth of transactions all at once while the downloading was happening.

I don't care about the graphs, so if they could make the upcoming transactions widget more like this it would be fine, but to me, it is much less elegant.

Oh, I almost forgot, when you marked a transaction as paid, it disappeared from the overview window, so, for example, in the screenshot above, once I scheduled the Comcast payment on the Comcast website, I marked it as paid and didn't see the reminder anymore. I'm sure someone will chime in to tell me I'm using it wrong, but it worked for me.

I'm guessing they don't have it built to allow clicking to jump to the transaction in the register because users may not have their register(s) set to show upcoming scheduled transactions. So instead, staying on the Bills and Income screens, if you click the ••• icon in the Actions column, you can do all the things you could do if you go to the scheduled transaction in the register (like editing the amount):

I think that's quite an exaggeration. 😉 Features are added, but it's very unusual to have features removed. The Home > Overview screen was a carryover from the 2010 Quicken Essentials, and a lot of underlying technology has changed over the past 16 years. But the bigger reason is that many, many users complained that the Overview screen was mostly not configurable; the Dashboard cards which have been developed over the past several years are considerably more configurable and offer a lot more customization than the old Overview screen.

If you really want to do that, the old version is in your Trash. you'll also needto restore the data file from the backup created before the update was installed. But then you'd be permanently stranded on version 9.1.1. In my opinion, I think you'd be better off learning how to use the existing features to get what you need rather than trying to roll back the clock.

When you Mark as Paid in the Bills screen, the bill disappears from the list (unless the next instance occurs within the time period you have set for the screen).

All this discussion and no mentions of the new budget rollover feature! Has anyone tried it out?

on Discord QuickenLisa had answered some of my questions about rollover with:

Really great questions. Rollover function is per year. Turning it on/off for a category for 2026 does not turn it on/off for any other year. However, if both sides of a year boundary are turned on, then it will rollover across years. For example, if it's on in 2025 and 2026, then the December 2025's balance will rollover into January 2026. Hope this helps!

(Sadly, I’m not able to get to my Quicken laptop for a few days…)

You do see that that method is much more complicated. And it is so configurable that they configured the way I like right out of it. I was thinking of temporarily downgrading until I have time to learn new behaviors, I wasn't planning on being permanently stuck on 9.1.1. I hope they allow me to upgrade at a later date.

We were discussing the Projected Balances tab not the main bills and income screen. On this screen, they do not disappear. That one (even though designed for a different purpose) lets me do most of what I did before, just not as conveniently, but the transaction stays (as it should in a projected balance screen).

@JayBugs I’m also super excited about the budget rollover feature. I’ve been waiting YEARS for it, so I can’t want to work on getting it set up this weekend. Hopefully it’s an indication that more budget improvements are in the pipeline!

@JayBugs You’re right that the rollover feature is a much bigger deal in this release. Because of the various shortcomings with the budget portion of the program, I don’t use it much these days, so I’m interested to hear what people who regularly use the budget have to say after trying it. 😉

One thing I didn’t like while testing the feature is that you have to enable rollover for each category in your budget individually. I appreciate this flexibility for people who want to see rollover for some categories but not others, but I think many users would prefer to click one button or setting to have rollover enabled for every category (or perhaps two: “all income categories” and “all expense & transfer categories”). Fortunately, it’s something you set up once and don’t need to do again, but I think a one-shot way to enable rollover throughout a budget, rather than having to do it for each line item, would be helpful.

Only if it’s an additive feature, not replacing the line item option. I prefer the line item method as I do not intend rolling over my entire budget or one entire group like all expenses.

I installed this release on my MacBook, and it has been hanging from time to time. I get the spinning colour wheel. It eventually returns. Generally, this update runs slowly. This happens mostly when moving the cursor from an account view to the Home view.

@jacobs I think you know I use the budget module, and I think the inclusion of the rollover feature is great for some folks!

If there is one thing I have learned about budgets over the years helping here is that they are highly personal! People have different objectives of using budgets.

For some, limited $ constraints might mean saving a little this month so they have more in the future. For them, a rollover is great. I.e.: spend less on groceries the next few months so I have more $ for the holidays parties, etc.

Others view a budget as a forced savings: be under budget this month DOESN'T mean you can spend more in the future-you funnel that $ into savings and treat the next month with the same tight leash. Pocket the hardship.

It depends on your budget goals on whether rollovers help.

I will have to give it time to see if the my "rollover eligible" categories are worth keeping that way.

I believe there's a bug in 9.2. These photos are from the budget view. Notice in the shot below that the categories are truncated (th..sz).

After collapsing and reopening the adjacent yearly summary to the right, the categories appear as whole words again. Can we get this fixed, please?

Love that budget rollovers have been added, but there is currently no way to edit rolled over amounts like there is in Quicken Windows. I have created an idea post for this functionality:

While I agree that a specific feature to move around rolled over funds seems helpful, wouldn’t setting initial rolled over funds tracked elsewhere be the same as setting the January budget amount to a higher or lower value for just that month? (That is how I have been doing my rollover from year to year so far.) Other than being cleaner with a separate January budget number and a starting rollover addition, is it any different than just changing the January only budget?
