Can a Vanguard Cash Plus Account Show All Transactions

I just opened a V-C-P Acct. When adding the account (by just updating), the Quicked register did not show the amount with which I initiated the V-C-P account. It came back $0.00. Since then I made four additional transfer in and they did appear. I have had numerous bills paid from that account. None of those withdrawals appear in Quicken. Of all the transactions to date, only the four transfers in show. Nothing else.

How did you create, in Q, this account? Because I'm not a Vanguard client, I'm not familiar with the account type … but it sounds very much like Fidelity's "Cash Management Account" … which is actually just the representation of cash in a taxable brokerage account.

Which is created, in Q, via the "Show Cash in a checking account" option on the taxable brokerage account.

SO, is that how you created the account in Q? Or how? And is it, indeed, the cash representation of your brokerage account?

Also, are you truly running Q2016, as your profile shows? Because, if so, nothing should download into that product as it was sunsetted in 2020.

I am running the current Q for Windows with updates as available.

With vanguard you create one account on Q. When you update Vanguard all sub accounts are included with each update. The cash plus account (VCP) appeared immediately in the Q account list the first time I updated after creating the account with Vanguard. It appeared in Q with zero dollars, as an empty account.

It is considered a savings account. It is managed through PNC bank. The VCP account holder cannot access the PNC account, only at Vanguard. The VCP register on Vanguard site is presented as a typical bank-type register. Because of the relatively high yield I write very few checks, having deposits and bills go in and out there rather than a no return checking account. I can replenish funds in the VCP with transfers from one of my other brokerage accounts there.

After reading your reply I went back to delete and add the account —> apply different option after adding —> then updating again. No joy. Always the same. Empty register that looks like a brokerage register in Q rather than a savings or check register. Even though Vanguard calls this a savings account, and practically it does function fully in that manner, because they have it associated with their brokerage services they may not have the kinks worked out interfacing with Quicken. Vanguard may not be properly "presenting" the VCP to Q. It should present as a traditional savings account to Q, but instead Q sees it as a brokerage account and constructs a brokerage register for it. Q probably does not know how to handle certain inputs from what it is seeing as a brokerage account. The VCP has no holdings/positions/shares associated with the account, only cash in - cash out. Probably why PNC is involved.

OK, I'm still a bit uncertain about what your situation is.

When you go to Vanguard's website, does the VCP show as a separate account there? OR does it merely represent the cash component of your brokerage account at Vanguard?

This situation with cash plus has been discussed here in the past without resolution. I, for one, provided a detailed description of how the transactions provided by Vanguard Direect Connect ere either incorrect or missing key data, e.g name of recipient doing a cash pull from the account. My rep took it to some in house group looking after customer concerns, but they have not picked up on it. I canceled my cash plus account.

@NotACPA cash plus accounts are listed as separate accounts on Vanguards web page. They are intended for bill pay purposes via ach with higher than typical,interest rates, but no "normal" bank features like checks, bill pay etc. one complicating factor is that they also allow for Vnguard money market funds to be held in them

interesting perspective that I had not considered. Mine however was setup via direct connect so it did in fact "find" the cash plus account, and mine was not a federal government VCP, at least as far as I know.

Bottom line IMHO is that there should be a way to get this done, if .vanguard wanted to do it.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Yes, listed separately at VG with a detailed register. When adding it as a new account within Q you add it as you would any new account by selecting Vanguard again. After connecting, Q comes back with a list of accounts it found, both old a current, asking which you wish to add to Q. Q then asks if it is a single mutual fund, even though it is a quasi-savings account. Then Q asks whether you wish to track simply or fully.

Adding it just now, the register in Q, even though it still looks more investment in nature, now seems to have all of the transactions from when I started the account with Vanguard a little over a weeks ago. Going to have to do a side-by-side..
