Uncleared Transactions - Classic Premier

I have just discovered that I had over 1600 "uncleared" transactions. Some were in Cash - adjusted balance and all the old transactions got marked "R". Perfect.

Tried same in old closed and reconciled-at-the-time accounts and nothing changed. I can't seem to select by account to fix this. (It became an issue because suddenly yesterday there was a glitch that showed 2 closed accounts with negative balances. I was able to get rid of those with Validate. But I want all the now-showing uncleared transactions to show R so I can spot new phantom transactions!)

Selecting ALL uncleared transactions doesn't work because in real life there ARE uncleared transactions.

@qknstuff what type of accounts are they? Banking, Investment? Are they online accounts, where you match to an online balance? How do you normally reconcile and how often? When did you first notice that your accounts were out of balance? Do you sync your accounts to the Quicken cloud?

I do not use Quicken cloud. I consider it an abomination.

I was able to get rid of the uncleared in cash account by adjusting to currrent balance. But in investments nothing happened.

They are NOT out of balance after I validated, which removed phantom transactions. But they show uncleared transactions, which I know WERE cleared online long ago. I would really not like to have to fix one by one

@qknstuff Investment accounts are a bit different when it comes to reconciliation. Cash is the only piece that really gets reconciled, but you can check if your shares are in balance by clicking on the gear icon and selecting "Reconcile shares".

You should never need to adjust the current cash balance. Cash should only result from trading activity.

What is your process to reconcile cash? Do you use the Reconcile option (or do a Ctrl-R)? If so, maybe a better thing to do is click on the cash link by "Cash Balance" at the bottom right of the account register. It shows you the cash balance at your financial institution so you know what you need to balance to.

Nevertheless, to get your transactions reconciled (the R input). I would first determe the correct cash balance you need to reconcile to by clicking on the cash link at the bottom right of the account register, and then I would just do a Ctrl-R, input the target cash balance. In the reconciliation window, click the transactions you know have cleared. Hopefully then you can reconcile between the register cash balance and the cash balance at the financial institution.

Sorry I missed this comment. If that is the case then still do the steps I outlined below (last paragraph). It will bring up a reconciliation window that you can check off the uncleared items. Once you do that click Finish and then the transactions will become reconciled.

Investment accounts have a long history of a very messy GUI and that is the reason you can't use multiple select in them. For just changing the Clr status R as @Sceptic said you can just use Quicken's reconcile, but for other operations where you need to act on multiple transaction they added "Edit Transactions" to the gear icon menu. What it does is bring up another window where you can select multiple transactions and then do a limited operations on them.

Thanks @Chris_QPW for pointing this out. I was stuck on reconciliation. I forgot about this neat feature, probably because I rarely use it.

@qknstuff as you can see there are different ways to get things done in Quicken. This one is might be easier for you to use.
