I want to set up a scheduled transaction group so that it appears in the register 57 days before the actual date. When I set one up, it sets up for 3 days early. How do I change it to 57 days? Thanks in advance
Sorry, wrong information (in my deleted post), I was thinking of a reminder.
Transaction groups are by date or periodically they aren't "days ahead".
Thanks for the quick answer, Chris. That's a bill reminder for a specific transaction. What I'm trying to change is that date but for a Transaction Group. I want it to "Show in List" 57 days before.
Yes, I made that mistake when I first posted, but corrected it. See my updated post. But the bottom line is that you can't do what you want to do with a Transactions Group.
Interesting as I had a transaction group that had a 45-day "show in list" date.
Well, I didn't see it when I installed Quicken 2013 when I went to try it. I could have missed it, what is on your list?
Any "45 days" seems like the wrong thing though, even it is there.
Looking at your screenshot the "3 days before" is under Show in List, which isn't the "frequency" shown in the group transaction dialog. 3 days is the default for reminders to show up in the list. In reminders there are the optional settings that allow you to change it, but it isn't visible in the transaction group dialog.
Note I don't even see a way to change this in the newest version of Quicken.
@Chris_QPW and @SalAmoniac there used to be a lot more flexibility with scheduling for Transaction Groups and Reminders. I don't recall when the reminder revamp happened, maybe Q2009? Here is one of the older screens from before the revamp:
Yeah, I sort of remember that. It goes to show you "updates" aren't always "good".
But in fact, I have a feeling why they changed it and it really comes back to Microsoft and for today's bad GUI practices by Quicken Inc.
There is another thread among many that talks about the problem with these dialogs not being resizable.
I can certainly see with a larger non-resizable dialog like one above someone complaining that it didn't fit on their "low resolution screen" and the solution was the newer smaller dialog. Bad solution, but typical. Of course, it might also have been billed as "easier to use".
If I reach way back in history to when I worked on Unix machines, the GUI libraries made it pretty trivial create dialogs/windows that were resizable. Then you got Microsoft and Windows. The "dialogs" were all "fixed" and "windows" could resize, but the tools made it much easier to create the dialogs. With the dialogs you just take a GUI builder and throw different components on a fixed size dialog. Everything on it is "fixed size".
Quick to develop terrible for different size monitors/resolutions/scaling.
And got to "love" the fact that about a year or so ago they redid most of the dialogs so now they are "new". They are a bit bigger than the old ones and I'm sure they are using more modern APIs, but guess what? They are all still fixed sized windows and components! The Windows GUI APIs have come a long way (almost back to the level that we had in Unix in the 1980s) as far as the easy of creating variable size dialogs/windows, but they choose to take the slightly faster "fixed" approach. What missed opportunity.
I restored a backup copy I'd made a week or so ago and found the below. I upgraded from a previous version of Quicken about two years ago. Perhaps because I had set it up in the old version, it simply rolled over into Quicken 2013 but the feature got deleted for setting up and changing it in new ones in Quicken 2013. It seems odd it can be changed for individual transactions but not for group ones, a step in the wrong direction. Thanks for your help!
