Merger Security, AT&T and AT&T Inc

I'm on Windows and running Quicken Premier version R68.31. I have an issue with existing AT&T Security and AT&T Inc.; both have the ticker symbol "T". Is there a Merge Security option that I can use. Have entries going back 30 years.

Thank you for reaching out with your question. Quicken Classic for Windows does not currently have a Merge Securities feature. However, you can manually merge the two securities by following these steps:

Create a backup of your Quicken file before making any changes.
Decide which AT&T security you want to keep.
Compare the two securities before making changes by going to Investing > Tools > Security List. I recommend comparing the Price History for both securities. If one has a more complete historical price record, it may be the better security to retain.
Open the investment account’s transaction list and locate the transactions that use the AT&T security you want to eliminate. You can sort the transactions by security to make this easier.
For each applicable transaction, change the Security Name from the old AT&T security to the AT&T security you want to keep.

6. Once you’ve confirmed that the old security is no longer being used, you can hide it from the Security List.

@Quicken Laura has laid out the procedure I would use. A few tweaks or clarifications:

Point 2 - You should chose to delete the security with the fewer number of transactions, because you are editing each of those transactions.
Point 3 - Because your two securities share the same ticker, there is no need to compare their price histories. When tickers are involved, Quicken organizes the price history data by ticker.
Point 5 - Make use of copy and paste in editing the transactions. Copy the desirable security name to the clipboard (Ctrl-c usually). You can then get to a repeat pattern of clicking on the undesirable security name, Ctrl-v to paste over with the desirable name, save the transaction which advances you to the next one to edit.
Point 6 - Once the editing is completed, I would delete the undesirable security rather than just hiding it.

@Quicken Laura @q_lurker Rather than doing numerous edits, why not use the "Corporate Acquisition" action?

@Lex was not specific as to his issue. I took it he wanted his historical records to reflect one name, not two. Corporate Acquisition does not change historical data.

If somehow he currently has holdings of “T” in two different accounts under the two different names, the Corporate Acquisition would bring those under a single name going forward.
