I entered the split details of a transaction manually, assuming the bank transaction would offer to match it. It did not. How can I manually match them so that I don't have to retype all the. line items?
You posted this in a Mac forum, so I assume you meant to ask about Quicken Mac.
Did you manually enter the transaction first, so that it was already there when the bank transaction downloaded? That's the only time that Quicken Mac will automatically match. If you download the bank transaction first and then manually enter a matching transaction it won't automatically match, you have to do it yourself. You can manually match transactions by either dragging one onto the other, or by using Command-click to select both of them and then selecting Match Transactions from the context menu.
Transactions will also not match automatically if the amounts are different, so check to make sure they are identical.
And when I right-click on the bank's transaction, why is the match option grayed out?
Yes, I had manually entered it first. Thanks for the tip on Command-click — that worked.
