Spending Category Breakdown Incorrect

I'm digging into spending categories, and I noticed that certain categories weren't totaled correctly. There's a few I've noticed, but here's an example where Shopping:Clothing had $44.83 assigned to it, but there's no transaction listed. On the right, it said "Marshalls" so I clicked that thinking that a more specific view might show me the transaction. It didn't. I changed the top filter from "Last 30 Days" to "All Dates" and there's still no transaction that appears for $43.83, and the total it shows me for all dates is off by that much. At the bottom, you can see it says there is 1 transaction, with a total of 0.00, but no transaction is listed. What could be the problem here?

OK, here's the possible issue.   When a category has sub-cats, even if it's a sub-cat also, NO transactions should be assigned to the parent cat … but only to the lowest applicable sub-cat.

Your transactions that are assigned to Shopping, for example, and not one of it's sub-cats are what's screwing things up.

"Transfer Loans' is also going to cause issues since it's not showing anything in the category field … even the name of the  other account from which it's a transfer.

So it's really weird. I went and looked at it again today, and the transaction in that category showed up. Then I clicked into my checking account in Quicken to look at something else, and then I came back to that same page, and it was gone. I went back to the parent "Shopping" category, and saw this. Same thing, the totals it's reporting don't add up.

And then I went all the way back to the root "Spending" category, and it's off as well.

However, I did notice that when I first opened quicken and went into the spending breakdown, it was correct. The total at the top and bottom of the page both showed $7,496. So I tried to close and re-open the program, and now it's reporting correctly.

However, it reverts back to showing the wrong total if I click any account under the Banking tab on the top left of the screen and then go back to the spending breakdown. I still don't know why it's happening, but at least I know how to reproduce it.

As  you've shown it, Shopping is a Parent category, with Clothing as a sub-cat.  Perhaps, is Clothing also a parent,  with sub-cats?
