FYI:

IMMEDIATELY after writing this up, I got ANOTHER update notification "that resolves crashes" from R69.25 to R69.26.

MSI Cleanup has reappeared :-(

previously on my Windows 10 platform, MSI Cleanup NEVER FINISHES.

We'lll see.

@FTERoo from your other posts, it looks like you have had the "MSIClean" issue for a while now. Have you contacted Quicken Support for help with this issue?

Yes, and there's been no response.

This update to 69-26 finally completed around 6 hours after it started. But it did finish.

As I stated before, WHAT is that process doing?

Sometimes a Quicken installation does not complete correctly and that can result in this MSIClean issue.

What usually resolves the issue is to do a Windows uninstall of Quicken.

Then go to https://www.quicken.com/support/how-do-i-download-quicken-quickencom-after-i-buy-it/ and download and install a fresh copy of the complete Quicken program from there.

In most cases, this resolves the issue. Let us know if it does not and some additional troubleshooting steps can be provided.

@FTERoo I have a feeling that your issue may be with Windows 10 and not Quicken. If you search the internet on "how to clean corrupted system files from Windows 10" you get some standard steps to fix system file corruption. For your case, I would only consider Step 1 and Step 2. If there are updates still available for your installation, then also do Step 3.

Step 1: Run DISM

Press Windows key + S, type cmd.
Right‑click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
Type DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and press Enter.
Wait for the process to complete before proceeding.

Step 2: Run System File Checker

In the same elevated Command Prompt, type sfc /scannow and press Enter.
Wait until verification reaches 100% and review the scan results.
If prompted that some files couldn’t be fixed, run DISM again, then repeat sfc /scannow.

Step 3: Install Latest Windows Updates

Press Windows key + X and select Settings.
Go to Update & Security > Windows Update and click Check for updates.
Install all available updates and restart your PC.

Step 4: Run CHKDSK (if disk errors suspected)

Open Command Prompt as administrator.
Type chkdsk C: /f /r and press Enter.
Type Y to schedule the scan, then restart your PC to let CHKDSK run.

Step 5: Use System Restore (if problem started recently)

Press Windows key + R, type rstrui.exe, and click OK.
Select a restore point before the issue began, click Next, then Finish.

Step 6: Reset This PC (last resort)

Open Settings > Update & Security > Recovery.
Under Reset this PC, click Get started and choose Keep my files or Remove everything.
Follow on‑screen instructions to complete the reset.

I do Step 1 and Step 2 routinely on my installation of Windows 11.

Good suggestions, and something I will do.

I am working on retiring my Windows 10 System(s) just for the current security environment if nothing else. It "inherited" a lot of files and systems over the years.

I also had several hard disks die this summer, which has complicated the retirement effort immensely.

I actually HAVE done reinstalls, which haven't corrected the issues with MSIClean. Sceptic's post following is a good idea and well laid out once I get this system stabilized.
