Wild Cards For Transaction Auto Categorizations

I would like to be able to auto-categorize downloaded transactions without having to rename the payee and losing information that's in the downloaded payee name. I would like to auto-categorize transactions with wildcards, such as Amazon*or *Giant*.

Thank you for reaching out! To clarify, are you asking for a way to automatically assign categories to downloaded transactions using wildcards to recognize a Payee, but changing only the category?

While not exactly what you're looking for, there is some ability to update the category based on rules. For more information, please see this article: https://info.quicken.com/win/how-do-i-edit-a-memorized-payee#Add-or-modify-rule-conditions-(optional)

@Jeff Baer you can rename payees to a consistent name using Renaming Rules and keep the downloaded payee info intact. Just select Downloaded Payee to display in the register. The register column selection button is at the upper right corner of the register:

Once you have normalized the payee names, you can create Memorized Transactions to automatically categorize your transactions.
