Can't generate reports under the Net Worth & Balances Reports menu

30 yr user of Quicken. familiar with the system. Version R69.26. I manage three separate Quicken data files. For two of the files, can generate all reporting options. Under one data file, I cannot generate any reports in the Net Worth & Balances Reports menu (Account Balances, Net Worth or Lifetime Overview). How can I correct this? TIA

@Retired Banker If you haven't already, I would first try to validate your data file. Then if the issue persists, then try a "File Copy" -

Make sure the problem file is open (the one with broken Net Worth reports).

1. Open the File menu
   • Click: File (top left).
2. Open Validate & Repair
   • Click: File → Validate & Repair File…
3. Select the file to validate
   • In most cases, Quicken will already show the current file.
   • Confirm it’s the correct data file.
4. Choose “Validate file”
   • In the dialog, select “Validate file” (radio button).
5. Run the validation
   • Click: OK.
   • Quicken will process the file; this can take a bit depending on size.
6. Review the validation log
   • When it finishes, Quicken shows a Data Log (text report).
   • Scroll for any errors, repaired items, or unrepaired issues.
   • Close the log, then test your Net Worth & Balances reports again.

Super Validate (deeper structural check)

Super Validate is the same dialog, but invoked with a modifier key so Quicken runs additional integrity checks.

1. Close and reopen Quicken (optional but wise)
   • Close Quicken, wait a few seconds, reopen the problem file.
2. Open File menu with CTRL+SHIFT held down
   • Hold down CTRL + SHIFT on your keyboard.
   • While still holding them, click: File → Validate & Repair File…
   • Keep CTRL+SHIFT pressed until the dialog appears.
3. Confirm Super Validate mode
   • You won’t see “Super Validate” written explicitly, but invoking the dialog with CTRL+SHIFT is what triggers it.
   • Again, confirm the current data file is selected.
4. Select “Validate file”
   • Choose “Validate file” (same option—Super Validate is about how you opened the dialog).
5. Run the super validate
   • Click: OK.
   • This pass can take longer; it digs deeper into structural issues.
6. Read the Super Validate log
   • Quicken will again show a Data Log.
   • Pay attention to:
     • Damaged accounts or transactions
     • Rebuilt internal tables
     • Any items marked as not repairable
   • After closing the log, test Account Balances, Net Worth, Lifetime Overview again.

If that still doesn't resolve the issue, then you can try Quicken's internal File Copy.

1. Open the problem data file

• File: Make sure the data file that cannot generate Net Worth & Balances reports is open.

2. Open the File Operations menu

• Click: File (top left).
• Click: File Operations → Copy…

3. Configure the copy options

You’ll see a Copy File dialog.

• Confirm “Copy file” is selected (not “Create a copy or template” if that appears).
• Leave the checkboxes at their defaults (don’t change year range, don’t truncate).
• Choose a new filename:
  • Example: if your file is MyFinances.QDF, name the copy MyFinances-Copy.QDF.
  • Note the folder where Quicken will save it (usually your Quicken data folder).

4. Create the copy

• Click: OK or Save (depending on the dialog).
• Quicken will rebuild the file record‑by‑record into the new copy.
• When finished, Quicken will ask whether to open the new file.

5. Open the new copy

• When prompted, choose “Open New Copy” (or similar wording).
• You should now be in the copied file, not the original.

6. Run Validate (and Super Validate) on the copy

Now that you’re in the copy:

• Standard Validate:
  • File → Validate & Repair File… → select “Validate file” → OK.
• Super Validate (optional but recommended):
  • Hold CTRL+SHIFT, then File → Validate & Repair File… → “Validate file” → OK.

Review the Data Log, then test:

• Reports → Net Worth & Balances → Account Balances
• Reports → Net Worth & Balances → Net Worth
• Reports → Net Worth & Balances → Lifetime Overview
