My file size has doubled in after updating to 9.2.2

Hi!

Immediately after updating to 9.2.2, I noticed the app taking longer to shut down. I took a look at the file size, and it's 1.39 GB. The backup file prior to the update is 695.7 MB.

That could be the reason, or at least contribute to how long it takes to close out the file.

Any thoughts on what might be happening?

@jaybee16 Your file is not too large.

1.4 GB is large, but not exceptionally large. Do you have a lot of attachments in your file? Attachments contribute the most to large file sizes.

You mention that the file size is roughly double the size of a backup file. This is exactly what you should see. Backup files are compressed, while live data files are not. A compressed backup file is typically about half the size (or less) of the live file.

One question: where does your live data file live? Is it in the default ~/Library/Application Support folder? Somewhere else on your hard drive? In a cloud storage folder?

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Sorry I'm so late getting back to you. I don't have notifications turned on and forgot I'd posted this.

Looking at the circumstances more closely, I can see the size hasn't really increased, and the issue is likely connected to how I've saved my file, etc.

In a separate reply in this thread, @jacobs asked where the live data file lived, and although I've used this save location for over 2 years with no issues, I found evidence of file conflicts when I looked more closely at the contents of the file (the content inside the folder that comprises the data file).

I store the file on Network Attached Storage (NAS) so I can share it between two different computers. Up to this point, I haven't seen a slowdown and, frankly, couldn't have told you the file size without checking. As @jacobs also explained, backup files are compressed and will naturally be smaller than the live file.

Anyway, the live file had stray "sync" files inside pertaining to conflicts with the other computer. It seemed to me that these fils were likely causing some extra thinking.

I rebooted the NAS, and now the file no longer shows those conflicts; it takes about 13 seconds to open and 25 seconds to close, which is more in line with what I'm used to.

I've made some adjustments that have my behavior back in line with what I'm used to.

Point taken about backups being compressed and therefore not a good gauge of file size before and after the update. I went back through versions and snapshots of the file pre-update, and they're the same size.

As I explained to Quicken Levetta, since you prompted me to consider where the live file is currently being saved, I took a closer look and, as I said, compared the live file pre- and post-update, and I discovered some weirdness associated with saving the file on Network Attached Storage (NAS). In the live file contents (inside the folder), a few files indicated a conflict involving server-based file sharing. After rebooting the NAS, I'm getting speeds similar to what I expect, and I no longer see the extraneous, problematic files.
