Cannot Load Attachments - Spinning while opening file directory (Q Mac)

Does anyone know ow how to overcome endless spinning on QMAC 9.2.2 as I try to attach a receipt. The hyperlink opens a window of files from directory—opens but cannot use as there is an endless spinner This problem started with 9.2.1 on Aug 31 2026.

I learned from Google'd Gemini AI that I can drag and drop file into the register (this worked) and that this approach bypasses the endless spinning when trying to use Add Attachment. FGood news; not sure how Gemini know this.

This is what Gemini told me:

Did not receive any errors while waiting for the spinning to stop. No matter how I indicated I wanted to add an attachment, the spinning would start as the file-picker window would open.

There was no spinning when using the drag-and-drop method.

@CUITCNY I've seen your reports about this problem, but now was the first chance I had to test it myself… and I can't replicate what you're describing. If I open a transaction and pull down the Transaction menu to Add Attachment, the open dialog box displays, I can click on a file, and it immediately saves into Quicken. I tried a few different files in a few different folders with a few different transactions; all worked exactly as expected.

A few thoughts and questions…

When you're doing it and experiencing the endless spinning, I'm wondering if Quicken is trying to open a folder location which doesn't exist or it can't access? Do you have the same problem if you try to do some other action in Quicken requiring the macOS open file selection box? For instance, if you try File > Open or File > Import, do those open correctly or do you experience the same spinning? When you try Add Attachment, can you see from the contents what folder it is opening? Is the folder it's defaulting to one that is local on your hard drive or on a cloud service like iCloud orDropbox? If you do Add Attachment and immediately press Command-D (to select the Desktop as the location to import from), can you get it to display your desktop folder, or does it get hung before you can press Command-D?

File > Open works

File > Import works

Add Attachment followed by CONTROL -D (look for attachment (file) on desktop) works

Add Attachment opens iCloud>Documents> - does not work; can see files but within 1-2 seconds the spinning starts, never ends, and cannot attach file

Add Attachment > CONTROL D > works; then move to iCloud>documents>receipts - spinning then starts again after 1-2 sec.

@CUITCNY Thanks for the additional testing and replies. This was really helpful. The problem has been narrowed to when you select Add Attachment and navigate to the iCloud > Documents folder.

Unfortunately, I'm out of clues about why the iCloud folder might be causing this problem, and I don't use iCloud Drive, so I can't test to see if the same thing happens to me. I don't know if this is an Apple bug or a Quicken bug. Hopefully someone on the Quicken Mac team will see this and look into it.

Oh, please add one more piece of data: what version of macOS are you running?

I do have iCloud Drive but was unable to duplicate this behavior with 9.2.2 - I was able to attach files from iCloud to transactions without any spinning wheel of death icon. I tried both files that were already downloaded to my Mac (no cloud icon) and files that were still in the cloud only, and neither one was an issue.

Hopefully they can figure out whatever is causing this but in the meantime another workaround would be to copy the files off of iCloud Drive to your Mac & then attach them.

This evening, I checked again as Jon stated: "I was able to attach files from iCloud to transactions without any spinning wheel of death icon. I tried both files that were already downloaded to my Mac (no cloud icon) and files that were still in the cloud only, and neither one was an issue." As of this evening, "Add Attachment" is working (when I go to iCloud > Documents folder) for the first time (on my system) since August 31. [Version 9.2.2 (Build 902.61860.100)]. Not sure why it is now working. Thank you Jacobs and Jon for your comments.
