Both my father and I use Quicken Classic, but he no longer has the ability to troubleshoot or even go online all that well anymore, so I am posting this for him. His content would be scattered and incoherent, so it’s gotta be me doing the info request.
Throughout this morning, while just looking at his main chequing account inside Quicken (and not doing a damn thing WITH Quicken), he has seen his balance see-saw back and forth by about two million dollars, from the negative into the positive and back into the negative. This balance was changing every 20-40 minutes.
I even saw the last “balance update” occur when connected remotely, in real time, so THIS IS NOT HIM DOING ANYTHING.
When I took a look at that specific account, I discovered that - aside from two entries from 2010 - there were no more entries from when the bank account was opened in early 1984 to early April of 2023.
That’s 39 years of data, just wiped from Quicken, from only a SINGLE bank account. A quick spot check of other accounts that were just as old did show consistent data back to 1984, so this is not a database-wide issue, only a specific account issue.
How can this happen?
Note: Restored from backup, data is back. I also work in the security end of IT, so his laptop is locked down six ways to Sunday. I seriously doubt a RAT is on the system but will also check for that when I have more time.
