Transaction Splits

It appears that the latest version of Quicken (Version R69.29) has changed the way Split Transactions work. Previously, I entered a $0 amount transaction in my bank account when I made a payment with cash, and I entered two lines of Split to record the expense category and reduction to cash, with the two Split entries netting to $0. Quicken accepted this and it enabled me to keep track of my cash expenditures. However, the latest version of Quicken will no longer let me enter Split Transactions than net to $0. Quicken now produces a window labeled “Payment or Deposit?” and will not allow a $0 total. This appears to be a bug in the program. I should be able to enter Split Transactions that net to $0 when the transaction amount is $0.

Wouldn't it be much easier to just have a cash account in Quicken? It would require a transaction with NO splits and a periodic transaction to put

I've got one and when ever I go to the ATM, I make the appropriate transfer from checking/savings to cash. I only track my larger cash transactions, so every once in a while I make an adjustment to bring the cash account in line with what is in my billfold.
