I have an issue while using the Amazon retail categorization function. Overall I like it & it is a time-saver for me, but there are some bothersome quirks, and both relate to the top-level “Memo” field shown in the register (i.e. not the memo fields in the split transactions) and a term I'll call 'The Most Recent Top-Level Amazon Memo Entry Before The OSU Occurs' (TMRTLAMEBTOO).
First quirk: when the OSU occurs, for all split transactions, the TMRTLAMEBTOO is duplicated in the top-level Memo field for all newly downloaded Amazon transactions. All the split transactions window memos are fine, so the fix is to simply individually delete the bogus top-level Memo fields.
Second, related quirk: when the OSU occurs, for all single item Amazon transactions (i.e. no splits) the Memo field gets populated with the TMRTLAMEBTOO concatenated with a pipe symbol (“|”) then the actual description of the item. To fix this, I delete the beginning, bogus Memo entry, then usually have to add item details at the end of the Memo, because the initial merged Memo line was so long Quicken truncated some of the ending description.
Note from the 'Tools/Retail Purch Cat' screen: I have the “Include order item detail…” option checked, and the info popup for it says this: “Order item details will be added to the transaction memo. Any existing memo text won’t be replaced, details will be added after it.” This last part seems to relate to the second quirk.
I’m guessing this issue is also related to some of my 'Edit/Preferences/Data entry and QuickFill' selections, but I generally like the automatic Memo entries for other retailers that show up on the same credit card account along with my Amazon purchases.
