Net worth and account balances gives wrong value

When I do a net worth or account balance report, the first line item, a checking account at my credit union is off. Current balance is around $2000 but the reports show a negative balance of around $17000. Others seem ok. Should I have to go through the report line by line to check? This has been going on for awhile. Don’t know when it started.

I have done a validate and a super validate with no errors

Using Quicken Business and Personal R69.53 build 27.1.69.53

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

@rlroberts are you running the report from a saved or customized report? If so, the first thing I would do is run a new Net Worth report scratch with a date range of Earliest to Date. Make sure all accounts are selected including hidden accounts, the same for Categories, Payees, Tags, and Securities.

Compare the new Net Worth report to the Account Bar list. Make sure that the Account Bar list is set to show Current Balances (not Ending Balances). The account balances should match.

Thanks for the quick response. I was doing a new report. I did turn on all that you mentioned but still getting the same result. I get the same wrong number with both net worth and account balance report. The number does not match to anything

This could be caused by one or more broken transfers into the account or some similar problem.

To find the cause, I would set the end date for one of the reports back in time and compare the report balance to the balance shown in the account's register on the same date. Zero in on the date when the balances first disagree and look for a suspicious transaction on that date. Often deleting and re-entering the transaction will fix problems like this.

Always back up your data file before changing historical transactions, just in case …

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the suggestion. I did this. It seems my paychecks starting in 2019 have the wrong deposit amount into this account. I am not sure how this happened as I have been syncing with the bank and reconciling almost every day. When I open the paycheck and just close it, the reconciled amount that is in the account. and therefore changes the current balance to not match with what is currently in there. Not sure how this could have happened, but not worth going through and trying to figure this out.

I don't understand why when I ask for the current balance, that is correct in the account register, can be off because of something in 2019. I guess I will just have to live with it.
