How do I record the acquisition of IPO shares from an investment pool in Quicken Classic?
I am invested in a private equity pool where shares are typically valued at $1.00. Recently, the pool distributed shares of SpaceX to me. How should I record this transaction in Quicken to correctly reflect the basis in both the original pool and the new SpaceX shares? Should I use a corporate spin-off, a manual share adjustment, or a distribution transaction?
Additionally, shortly after this distribution, the value of the remaining pool shares increased by 25% in my Fidelity account. Is it appropriate to use a stock split feature to record this re-valuation, or is there a better way to track this price appreciation? (I assume the remaining pool investments must include some "good" upcoming IPOs.)
This account is a SEP-IRA, so while tax implications are not a concern, I need accurate basis tracking to measure the performance of this investment. Any guidance on the best workflow for these transactions would be appreciated.
