I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I've had one recurring issue between BMY and BP in a managed ML account. I posted a long and confusing thread about it a while ago, but I just did some reconciling using add / remove shares. Now I finally figured out half the problem. Every time I get a BP sale or purchase (actually, dividends too, but it doesn't affect shares), the memo field shows "BP PLC…" but the security field shows BMY. This happens every time, and screws up both my BMY position and BP share totals. If I change the symbol in the transaction to BP, the BP shares self correct. Although all of my BP transactions show the "BP PLC…" memo, only the 2026 BMY transactions show a "BRISTOL-MYERS SQUIBB CO…" memo, The others from prior years are blank. Since my current BMY position is short, they must be all relatively new transactions. Right now my broker shows 44 BP shares and 23 BMY shares, but Quicken shows 44 and 44. Plus Quicken has a placeholder transaction which can't be deleted that, when I try to edit it, says "Shares Reported by Brokerage = 44, Shares Reported by Quicken = 44" so Quicken thinks everything checks out. I was away for a week and just did a Quicken one step update. I had 3 BMY purchases. Every field was correct except one, including $ amounts, type of transaction, memo, etc. The only thing that was wrong was the # of shares. In all 3 cases, the # of shares showed up in the transaction register as "0." I edited the transactions to reflect the correct # of shares (purchases of 8, 6, and 5) and that screwed up my totals to 44. Essentially, ML bought 19 shares for this managed account. I'm supposed to have 23 total. Quicken shows 44. 44 minus 19 = 25, so it's close to what I'm supposed to have, but I can't find any transactions I missed to make up the differences. I just want Quicken to stop identifying BP as BMY. I looked under the Window>Securities menu to see of there was some anomaly between BP and BMY in the security edit screen, but I didn't see anything. If I do a BMY transaction correction the non-deletable 2019 placeholder just keeps changing to make it 44 no matter what I do. I'm just tried to go back to 0 shares in the recent purchases to see if that will fix the totals, but I'm still at 44. Nothing I do can fix this. By the way, the date of the placeholder goes back to when the account was opened. It took a few months before there was any trading in the account because the account had to be funded by transferring enough securities to get it going. None of the original shares transferred in were BMY or BP… This was originally a Windows file converted over in 2021 or so. Maybe that had something to do with it.
Out of 194 securities across multiple accounts, I have only one other issue. Every time Fidelity does an update involving a SPAXX transaction, it reports it as FGRIX. When I change the "Fidelity Growth…" security name in the transaction edit to "Fidelity Government…" it fixes it with no errors, but I can't figure out why Fidelity always sees SPAXX as FGRIX
