Import, put all my charges in payment column?

Doing pretty good, but I looked at my Chase account, and it put all purchases in Payments rather than the charge account. Is there an easy way to select all and transfer where they should be, rather than do my back up. Also, when I look for the .qfx files, Quicken doesn't see them. Thanks for the assistance.

Could you provide a few more details?

Is the Chase account set up as a Credit Card account in Quicken (Account type = Credit)?
Are these transactions being downloaded from Chase, imported from a file, or entered manually?
When you say purchases were put in "Payments," do you mean they were downloaded as credits/payments instead of charges?
Is this affecting only existing transactions, or are new transactions continuing to be entered the same way?

Also, regarding the file issue, are you referring to a QFX file (downloaded transactions from a financial institution) or a QDF file (your Quicken data file)?

When you say Quicken doesn't see the file, what exactly happens? Does the file not appear in the file selection window, or do you receive an error message?

When it was imported it they all showed up as under payments. It is set up as a credit card.

They should have gone in as a charge. When I go to import and where the file is, it doesn't pick up an QFX files? Should I have done a csv.

When I look at prior charges and payments they seem alright.

Is it possible to Highlight these that are listed under payments and move them to the charge side, it moved payments in that time period into the payments which would be correct. Or am I going to need to do these one at a time. I have not checked my last few backups yet, thought I might check?

@Bruce Leavitt if there are a few transactions that need to be corrected for a certain timeframe, then I would just switch them one at a time. All you would need to do is highlight the amount, do a Ctrl-C, click on the field in the correct column, and then do a Ctrl-V. At this point I think this would be the safest thing to do.

Restoring a backup might work if you know exactly when this event occurred and what transactions have happened since. Otherwise, you might be unintentionally "undoing" other transactions you are not aware of. It might be more work to then restore the transactions that were undone.

Unfortunately, no. In Quicken you cannot highlight a column of numbers and move or copy them to another column, like Excel. I don't see any way to correct the transactions except one by one.

The only other thing I can think of is to download the transactions again, if they are still available for download. But since you stated that they downloaded incorrectly and that is the cause of your issue, I not sure that that is a viable solution.

Do you mean that it doesn't show up in the file browse window?

Make sure you don't confuse:

File → File Import → Quicken Transfer Format (.QXF) File

with:

File → File Import → Web Connect Format (.QFX) File {This is the one you want. You can also just double click on the .QFX file in Windows File Explorer and it will open in Quicken.}

Or do you mean that when you import it nothing seems to happen?

If it is the later that would be because every transaction has a unique Id and once a transaction is imported into a given account Quicken remembers that unique Id and will ignore it. It would have to be imported into a different account. Or if using a QFX file it is also possible to edit using Notepad the unique Id (the field is FITID) and change them to something else. Like search for <FITID> and change them to <FITID>A. To force it into another account you would change the <ACCTID>.

As for the rest something really strange is going on because I have Chase credit cards and they don't do that either with One Step Update or importing a QFX file. If you look into the .QFX file the sign of the <TRNAMT> determines how Quicken treats it. In a credit card negative amounts go in the Charge column and positive it the Payment column. Note that because of what is in a QFX file it is actually impossible to select anything other than a credit card account in Quicken if the QFX file is for a credit card account.

Note importing a CSV file doesn't have unique Ids and as such will go in again even if they have been imported before, but you have to get CSV file in the exact format that Quicken expects. Even though it is a little bit harder to read, I think the .QFX file is a better route when available even if you have to edit it.

I'm also going to say that transactions are actually importing with the wrong amount sign, then this is really something that needs to be brought up to Quicken Support:

@Bruce Leavitt I get my Chase credit card downloads via an EWC+ connection straight into Quicken. Are you purposely downloading a QFX file for some specific reason?
