Paychecks disappear after being reconcilled

Question

Every once in a while, paychecks that have already been reconciled are deleted when I open the file.  Just one paycheck every now and then.  I save my file every time I make transactions so I can go back to the saved version, and the same thing happens.  The paycheck is gone from the entries.  I'm on Windows, and version R69.53 build 27.1.69.53.  I save the file locally on my computer.  This has been happening for at least a year.

I made a copy of the file.  I followed your procedures above and the issue did not occur.  But this doesn't happen every time I do a One Step Update, so I will have to try this for at least a month to determine if it deletes a paycheck again.

Do the paychecks always disappear when running One Step Update? Does anything else trigger this behavior, or does it seem random when data vanishes?

You mentioned that this has been going on for about a year. Was the backup you restored from before the issue started?

If the validation does not correct the issue, please try making a copy of your file. This will rebuild all of the internal lists and database tables. If successful, you would then move forward with the copied file. To create a copy, please navigate to File > Copy or Backup File... > Create a copy or template (see examples below), which will also allow you to select a date range to move forward with.

If you wish to move forward with your entire data file, please check the full date range of your entire data file before copying so you can enter the correct date range if you do not wish to "shrink" your file by eliminating certain dates.

Note: There is no need to "shrink" your file unless you believe older data is causing the problem.

Once you open the copied file, please validate it, following the steps below:

* File
* Validate and Repair File...
* Validate File
* Click OK
* Close the Data Log
* Close Quicken (leave it closed for at least 5 secs)
* Reopen Quicken.
* Confirm if the issue is resolved in the copied file.

It's important to know that all online services will be disconnected in the copied file, and you will need to sign back in with your Quicken ID and reconnect all of your online accounts, online billers, Quicken Bill Manager services, etc if you plan to use that copied file going forward. The reason for this is that the new copy also creates a new and separate dataset ID.

Please start by reconnecting only what is necessary to verify whether the issue is resolved. If the issue is resolved, reconnect your accounts and billers and use the copied file as your main file going forward.

It happened twice today.  One in my regular file and one from a backup file.  I checked that the paycheck was there before I ran an account update.  I then tried the validating the file and doing the same thing again.  The one paycheck disappeared again.  I finally had to manually add it back to the file.  I then updated the accounts again and the paycheck stayed.  I haven't been able to determine why just sometimes one, sometimes more than one paychecks disappear.  I will try the validating steps you provided.  I didn't close out the quicken or close the data log.  I will see if that helps.
