Why does Quicken still display hidden and closed accounts in the "Investing"/"Investing Accounts" dropdown menu? Any way to get rid of these? Version R69.53, Build 27.1.69.53.
@ColdNose Which dropdown are you referring to? I don't immediately recognize an "Investing Accounts" dropdown. A screenshot or the specific view/window would help identify whether this is expected behavior or a potential enhancement request.
I believe @ColdNose is referring to the Investing menu (not the tab) then Investing accounts, which does list all investing accounts, including hidden accounts. This is shown only when View > Classic menus is selected.
Usually it is easier to select accounts from the Accounts bar, normally on the left side of the screen. If you select More accounts… at the bottom of a section, you can control which accounts are displayed and the display order. With the Classic menus, this is displayed only when View > Show tabs is selected. If the Accounts bar takes up more screen space than you want, you can collapse it by clicking on the little triangle at the top left. Click again to expand.
@Jim_Harman thanks. When I turn on Classic Menus, I can see the Investing/Investment Accounts dropdown.
You are correct. It's the Investing menu seen when Classic menus are on. I'm old school and Standard menus just don't make sense to me. All accounts are also listed in the Spending>Spending and Savings Accounts drop down.
@ColdNose I think I may have found a solution for your closed account issue. If you go to Tools→Mange Hidden Accounts, you can put a checkmark in the "Keep this Account Separate" column for any closed account that you do not want to show on these dropdown lists. After doing this, the closed and hidden accounts will not show in either the Investing or Spending dropdown lists.
The only side effect of this is that whenever you want to run a report that includes these closed and hidden accounts, you will need to make sure to always check "Separate Accounts".
Thank you. Of course it would be much better if the Quicken programmers just improved the product to handle everything consistently. When an account is hidden, remove it from all selection lists. Very simple and logical.
