What's up with Edward Jones?

This morning my Edward Jones account showed a balance of over $3,000,000 after updating accounts. Rather odd since yesterday my correct balance was just over $900,000. It would be great if I really did suddenly have over $3 million dollars, but what the heck happened?

@csantucci a jump from about $900K to over $3M usually points to either an incorrect security price or an incorrect share balance being reported for one holding.

I'd start by opening your Portfolio/Holdings view and sorting by Market Value to see if one security stands out with an unusually large value. Also check for any recently added Placeholder entries or unexpected share transactions.

If you post what changed within the account (security prices, share balances, or transactions), it may help narrow down whether this is a data issue from Edward Jones or something that was downloaded into Quicken.

Another possibility is a stock split. If a security recently underwent a split, sometimes the updated share count is reflected before the price adjusts, causing the account value to appear significantly inflated. I'd take a look at the holdings and see whether one security has an unusually large market value or recently had a split announced or processed.

Thanks for your response. I found the problem, I found a CD in the amount of $30,000 that now shows a balance of $2,900,000 something. My Edward Jones account on line shows the correct balance for the CD. So what happened? How can I fix it?

@csantucci the first thing I would look at is the price that posted this morning for the CD. It is probably a price for 10/15/26. Otherwise, look for any transactions that posted for the CD this morning.

@csantucci the next thing is to check the prices and transactions in your online account with Edward Jones. That should tell you what the correction needs to be.

The CD value on the Edward Jones website shows just under $30,000. I don't understand what happened it must be a quicken error. I may have to call support in the morning unless it goes back to normal when I update again.

@csantucci check the price history for the CD on Quicken. Tools→Security List, then click on the CD. In the Security Detail View, click "More" and then select "Edit price history". If it is a pricing issue, then the price for the 15th should clearly show it.

Yes, it could get corrected by an update tomorrow when another price update posts. CD prices are usually a day behind so the price for today with post tomorrow morning.

The prices for brokered CDs are provided by Edward Jones through their daily update file. They are not updated through Quicken's daily pricing feed. If the MV discrepancy turns out to be due to a pricing error, you will need to contact Edward Jones.

I have CDs at Edward Jones. All of mine have a Quote/Price very near $100.00 and the number of shares is the appropriate multiple to get to the value of the CD. S0, my $15,000.00 CD shows 150 shares.

Still messed up. And I was incorrect when I started this whole topic, I have 300 shares and the price shows $98.93. So the value should be about $30,000, not close to $3 million!

I'm going to ignore this for the time being!! Tomorrow is another day.
