Hi @wayne116,
Thank you for sharing your feedback and suggestions! We appreciate you taking the time to share your ideas for improving Quicken.
Regarding your first suggestion about the Sync button, you can create an official idea post in the Community. This will allow other users with the same or similar requests to vote for your idea and show their support. Our Development and Product teams regularly review these posts when considering improvements and new features.
For your second suggestion, could you share a few examples of the windows you'd like to keep open simultaneously? For instance, which screens or sub-windows would you like to view side by side or switch between without having to close them? Understanding your workflow will help us better understand your needs.
Regarding the split-related issues, both have been reported internally under tickets CTP-18407 and CTP-18429. Our team is actively working on them, although there is currently no estimated resolution date. You're welcome to check back here for updates, and I'll be happy to look into the status and share any new information available.
Thank you again for your feedback and for helping us identify opportunities to improve Quicken. Please let me know if you have any questions or additional details to share!
[CTP-18407 & CTP-18429]
OK. I said that ALL popup windows are modal. I'll take that back. The Find dialog isn't modal.
As far as which ones I'd like to not be modal, the recommended Windows programming methods states that a window should not be modal unless it needs to be. An example of this would be answering an error message before continuing. By default, all other windows should not be modal. In other words, modal should be the exception, not the rule.
Examples:
I have a report open and want to compare it to another report without printing it out. Yes, I can print to a PDF to save the paper, but it's still extra, wasted steps.
I'm looking at a Vendor Invoice and using it to type up my Customer Invoice. I can't have both of them open at the same time so that I can type in the purchased vendor merchandise to verify that I get it all into the Customer Invoice. Again, yes I can print it out, but that shouldn't be necessary.
There's an additional bug. Clicking the down arrow on the toolbar to the right of the One Step Update button will open a context menu. Choosing Update Settings will do a One Step Update instead of opening the Settings dialog box the first time it's chosen after opening Quicken. Once the One Step Update completes, doing the same thing again will open the One Step Update Settings. I've done this several times to verify that I'm not accidentally clicking the wrong line in the context menu.
Never mind. I figured this one out. I'm clicking the Enter button on the keyboard instead of using the mouse. The default button on the dialog that pops up first, for the password, is to run the One Step Update. There is a Settings… button on the left side of that dialog box.
Also, I figured this out right after posting this, but your system doesn't allow me to simply delete the message.
