Transactions/categories Disappearing [Edited]

I'm very upset with Quicken. For over 6 months now I've been having trouble with my assigned categories disappearing. I'll go in one month and update them and then next month they disappear. I was in Quicken earlier in October and paid bills made my entries, connected to the banks and update now today I go in and the latest entries are from August. EVERYTHING IS LOST!

Where is your datafile located? To find out open Quicken then select File at the top left. Down the list it should say "Show (datafiles name) in Finder" click this and it should take you to the file location. Here is a guide and a screenshot for extra help if needed.
I do see a few datafiles with the same name. If you go into each one make sure to clear any filters and search for the latest information is one file up to date?
Every time this occurs does it always go back to the same "latest" information from August?

Good afternoon,

Forgive me; I am all over the place because my Quicken is all over the place. We had a Vista Bank account that was bought by NBH Bank mid-summer but is still operating under the name of Vista Bank. After I messaged Quicken, it began to dawn on me the transition, which still doesn't really make sense. They changed over in July, and I had still been operating until, I think, the first of October.

When I paid bills on October 5, I had to reconnect to NBH Bank Vista Bank and get updated. So when I went in today, this is what my Vista Bank looked like when I had it on my phone from October 5. I got the two-step verification code that I used to update that account. (That account was running from way back when it was Security Bank, and I just didn't update the name to Vista.

I went in today and connected again to NBH Bank Vista Bank, and when I did that, it added the 2 accounts to my Quicken as new accounts. Suffice it to say, all my categories are not assigned for the 2 years of data it opened in the new account.

I will tell you I was having trouble with all my categories holding for probably about the last 6 months anyway. I would update them, and then the next month I would have to do them again, sometimes as much as several months back, all over again. Now, the Checking XXXX 2, which is Prosperity Bank and has not had a change of ownership, was all messed up as well. I had paid bills out of it the first of October as well, so it would have been updated as well. Today I went in, and everything was missing back to April. Here is the snapshot today of when I connected it updated 57 items.

Again, most of my categories are gone. I had been updating them and using the saving fill, and it seemed it was not recognizing. It makes no sense why the Prosperity Bank account was messed up. At this time, I have only glanced at Jan McGaugh Trust, which is now First United Bank and not Vista (I just haven't updated the name), but it was connected first in October as well, and now the last transaction is showing 2024!!!!

As far as the show finder you referred to, I reviewed the files that were showing up and chose this one I have described above, as it was the one that had the latest transactions. I have since moved those that showed nothing, or were even older, to trash. The Elite MMA register shows the latest transaction on 8-7-2025; it is also an NBH Bank Vista Bank. The new one, Signature MM, does start with a 7-2025 transaction.

I have used Quicken, I think, back to 1991, and we use it consistently for income, as we had a family farm and still have unusual taxes because the farm is rented out now that we are retired.

This is a public forum, so anyone can view the links you provided. Since your post made it clear you didn't want others to see them, I removed them.

To clarify, when you say your Categories aren't holding, do you mean that they are changing after you assign them to a transaction, or do you mean that Quicken keeps downloading transactions as Uncategorized or with an incorrect category, no matter how many times you manually correct it?

You mentioned a few accounts that appear to be missing information. Is it possible that you have duplicate accounts (one that's still connected and updating, and one that isn't)? That can happen if you need to reconnect an account (sometimes it gets added as new instead of linked to the existing one). To check for that, go to Accounts>Hide and Show Accounts.

Review the accounts listed to confirm if you have any duplicate accounts.

Quicken keeps downloading them as uncategorized and I can fix them and then the next month they go back to uncategorized.

I don't think any accounts are duplicate. I have a couple of hidden accounts but neither of them have had any activity. I can close a couple of accounts that are truly closed and enough time has past I wouldn't need any old info on them. One of the hidden ones I just started new for some reason and I just left the old in case of needing to go back for any reason. It is only 4 years old and in case we had any income tax issue there are reports I would like to recover. ??? There are no new transactions being downloaded into it.

To troubleshoot the issue with transactions downloading as Uncategorized, please start by checking your settings. To do that, go to Quicken>Settings…. On the Connected Services tab, confirm that "Automatically improve the quality of downloaded payee names and categories" is selected. If it is not selected, please select it and verify whether that corrects the issue.

If you have Renaming or QuickFill rules, click the Register tab and confirm whether you have enabled Quicken to automatically apply those rules.

Since you're not finding any duplicate accounts to explain the missing data, the problem may be file-specific. How often does this data loss happen? Have you noticed anything that seems to trigger the behavior? Is it just the two accounts (the Prosperity Bank and the Trust account) that are losing data? Are both accounts currently connected and able to download transactions? If not, what connection option are they currently using, and what error message/code (if any) do you see when you attempt to update?
