Mixed Budget Activity

My wife purchased something in December using her credit card and then decided to return it in January. While returning the item, she purchase a different, unrelated item on the same transaction receipt. I need to credit the return and purchase to the current credit card balance but I also want the return to show on last years budget with the purchase showing on this years budget.

    If you want to make it appear the item was returned in December, I suggest entering a phony transaction for the return in December and a phony transaction for the repurchase in January with a memo that explains the motive for adding these transactions.
