Balance is off; what to check?

Options
Hi group,
I recently had to re-download my US Bank checking account into Quicken. I was surprised to see, after I added in my latest transactions, that instead of being hundreds in the black, Quicken was telling me I am hundreds in the red.

I was surprised because I use online balance with Quicken, and my checking account is always balanced to the penny. I checked the opening balance, and it matches the US Bank account for the beginning date range. What else should I check? I'm stumped here.

Thanks for your help.

    Hi @gillianjeff,

A couple of quick thoughts and questions...

When you say you are in the red, are you looking at the balances below the register - i.e the "Online Balance" and "Ending Balance" or are you looking at the "running balance" in the register?  If the balances below the register look okay, it is likely that your "view" of the account has changed - not the actual balance.  Try hitting the "Reset" button at the top of the register window.

Have you reconciled the account recently?  If not, you could try reconciling it now, and that will likely find the problem.

Let me know how this goes.

    Hi Frank,
it's the ending balance that is now several hundred dollars negative; previously, it was several hundred dollars positive. Quicken auto-reconciled August 5th and the account was balanced.

I tried hitting the reset button but nothing changed. Is there a "view" option that I'm missing here?

I should note that in my register there are many future transactions I am accounting for; it is after all of those the ending balance is negative, when in my previous Quicken installation, it was positive. I should note, again, I have been balancing my account regularly with sufficient deposits to cover the transactions.

Could I have messed something up? Sure. But everything has been balanced until now, and that confuses me.
