security selection dropdown locked

I need to add a security to a brokerage account. transaction entry windows open with only one choice of security. why is it locked? never seen this before.

    Sounds like you have the account set up as a Single Mutual Fund account.  Change that via Edit Account Details.

    A "Single Mutual Fund" account can only hold the 1, original, security EVER.  If you sell all of that original fund to buy another, you must create a separate account to hold the new security.
    Which is why, unless your Fund Company requires such, the use of SMF accounts is generally discouraged here.
