I have a stock I own and had multiple trades in and out over the period of 45 days. The stock basis shown in Quicken is 3 to 4 times the true cost basis. In addition, while the total shares shown is accurate, it still shows the shares which were sold.

suggest going back to each purchase and sale, beginning with the oldest one and be sure a) the correct cost basis was reflected for each purchase and b) the correct lots were identified for each sale.

how does the Capital gains report look? if the cost basis is inflated, then the capital gains report should be inflated as well.

The gains are all off track as well even though I assigned the lots which were sold.

When you made these, presumed to be partial sales, of the holdings did you specify to the broker WHICH lots were to be sold?
If not, they probably chose FIFO.  If you selected another lot choice your basis would vary from theirs.
