What's the Cure for Account Entries Changing on Their Own?

Options
Qs,

My wife's Quicken has been changing account entries on its own to sometimes very usual numbers. For example, untouched a checking account balance switched from about $700 to a -$45,000 and there were corrupted entries back to 2018.

For all accounts that were affected, we entered balance adjustment items to correct the balances -- which allowed her to move forward but all the account history back to 2018 was still corrupt.

The very next day, a different set of accounts were corrupted.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Miracle Cures?

Best hopes,

Hilary Smith

    Hi @mrhsmith8

Sorry to hear you are having those problems with account data being changed by Quicken.  As a start, I would suggest that you - first create a new backup of your Quicken datafile.  The I suggest that you validate and then supervalidate your Quicken datafile.  You can find the steps to perform these validation related steps as follows:

First save a backup file prior to performing these steps.

    Validate
    1. Go to "File"
    2. Validate and Repair File...
    3. Select "Validate File"
    4. Click OK
    5. Close the Data Log
    6. Close Quicken (leave it closed for at least 5 secs)
    7. Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.
If this does not fix the problem, please proceed to "Super Validate" (below). If the issue is resolved after performing the above validation, then please disregard the instructions to Super Validate.

    Super Validate:
    1. Go to "File"
    2. Hold "CTRL + Shift" and click Validate and Repair File...
    3. Select "Super Validate File"
    4. Click OK
    5. Close the Data Log
    6. Close Quicken (leave it closed for at least 5 secs)
    7. Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

Once completed let us know how those steps went.

Thanks for the response, Frankx. We went through the Validation & Super Validation process and it didn't seem to restore the data files. BUT . . . after the process the backup and restore process seems more stable. That is, we can get out of Quicken and get back in and have the same data file each time. That's very useful. Hopefully, it will remain so. We're very grateful for your help. Hilary Smith
