Amex Express Web Connect+ Creating New Account - How do I merge with old account?

I have years of transactions in my "old" Amex account. The Web Connect "upgrade" CREATED A NEW ACCOUNT, with about 2 years of txns in them, including all sorts of transfers from my checking, etc. What a cluster. How do I either merge and de-duplicate, or kill the new account but upgrade the connection on my old account? This totally sucks.

OK, I was able to go into the old account and chance the connection type. That worked, then deleted the new account. But what a pain. Why didn't the wizard just let me upgrade the existing account in the first place? Oh well.

Just for others that might run into this. If you were to deactivate the account before trying to switch over, then most likely you would be able to link the online account to the existing one.
