Help with reports

I want to do a report with shows s by individuals spending by category comparing year by year spending in those categories in adjacent columns. I can do spending by category for a year but cannot figure out how to have columns broken by year. Is it possible?

    Use the spending by category report Select Earliest to Date as Date Range and Year For Column Heading
