Very slow opening Quicken program

After the last update, it takes over a minute to see my data file. This morning the screen was white for over three minutes before data file was loaded.

I validated the file and no errors.

Is your data file in a server syncing path? Paste the full path to your file here.

    Not sure what you mean

I know I am not syncing (OFF) when I go to preferences-mobile web—-I have it turned off

I should mention that if I restart my PC, then the data file opens immediately.

    @Gary R

We want to see the full path to your Quicken data file. You can see this be opening the File menu, like this.

There should be no OneDrive, Dropbox, etc. in the path.

That's an odd location for a Quicken data file, but it shouldn't really matter. Also, are you aware that you appear to be using a backup file as your primary data file. Again, that shouldn't really matter unless you didn't mean to access this file.

It's not the update as my system runs without issue. You should probably contact Quicken Support as they can remotely access your computer to troubleshoot and diagnose the issue. But, when was the last time you restarted your system?

    Now, I'm confused!

How do you know that I'm using a backup file to open Quicken?

I do pay for an on line backup from Quicken

The time and date appended to the file name is what might indicate it is a backup. Did you restore a backup from Jan. 17 at some point or something?

I restored my data file around March 6-7 after I tried the "Move" shares from Vanguard to Fidelity

If you recall, nothing transferred to Fidelity, and I had to restore my files

Ralph—Took your advice and called support. They did a screen share and changed the path, deleted the contacts. They said it was very unusual path with contacts. Quicken program now opening quickly like before.

Hopefully, no more issues with this

    Good to hear.

This question is for Jim Harmon. Why do you say onedrive should not be in the path for quicken files? Just curious.

It may work ok now but it is not a supported configuration and there have been issues in the past.

The problem is that Quicken usually locks the data file while it is running but sometimes it closes it momentarily. As soon as it closes, OneDrive grabs it to sync its online copy. When Quicken tries to re-open it, the file fails to open, causing problems for Quicken. The most common times for these problems to show up is when you first open Quicken, when backing up your data file, and when doing a Validate and Repair.

If nothing else, there may be a lengthy delay while Quicken waits for the OneDrive sync to complete and the file to open.

For Jim Harman. Thank you for your quick reply. Is it better than to open the quicken data file directly from where it resides, rather than the Quicken icon on the desktop?

    Thank you,

That does not matter for the issue being discussed here. When you double click on the Quicken icon, it attempts to open the last file you used. If you want to open a different file, it is fewer keystrokes to double click on that file.

To avoid lengthy startup delays and other problems, make sure the data file you are trying to access is on a local hard drive and is not being managed by a cloud storage system.

It is perfectly OK to store backups in a folder being managed by OneDrive, Dropbox, etc., but not your working data files.
