Many years and still glitchy -The Royal Bank and Quicken Classic
The very essence of it seems to be Royal Bank will not properly identify what I just spent, or more accurately Where I just spent. I cannot adequately classify my spending this way. Its a throwback to a different time when I have to go in to all my accounts and manually put in the vendor or payee… then the memorize nightmare! How do you memorize and make stick things like "interac purchase". When you do, even if you change the payee…every "interac purchase" will now show up as "Jones Barber Shop and category personal.. so. because it is 2025. why? and the famous "online banking payment" to whom,???

the first thing to check would be to make sure that you don’t have any renaming rules that are matching basically pretty much everything so that you get these useless payee names.
if it isn’t that, then it’s probably the old garbage in, garbage out. I suppose there are some very rare cases where there’s an actual download problem but the much much much more common cause is that is what the financial institution is providing for the download. This is especially true if you’re only seeing this with one financial institution, because renaming rules are global and would do the same thing with different financial institutions and accounts.
