I have some crazy, random transaction (highlighted) that is throwing off the balance of one of my accounts. I try to delete it but it refuses to go! Has anyone else seen this and were you able to get rid of it???

(FYI: I edited your picture to obfuscate your bank account number.)

Some steps you might want to try doing:

    • Close Quicken and reopen it. Then try to delete the transaction, again.
    • Reboot your computer. Then try to delete the transaction, again.
    • File > Validate & Repair File. This can fix some file corruptions.
    • If that doesn't work you might want to try restoring a recent backup file (File > View/Restore Backups) to see if the issue still occurs in that.

Post back here if any of these things helped resolve the issue.

Thanks for that and I'll try those things out now!

After not being able to delete after a reboot, I did go to the File —>Validate & Repair File selection (I selected the "Validate" option only), and the program eventually closed on its own. After re-opening, the balance for the account was back to normal so it all worked! Thanks again!!

I'm glad it worked for you. Thanks for posting the update here so others with a similar issue will know what might might work for them, too.

This issue just occurred today for several accounts. While the correct balance appears correctly in the side Accounts window, the individual accounts show *************************** for the balance due to a the same "weird transactions" mentioned in the previous post.

None of the above suggestions solved the problem. And I have restored the backup from the morning, still with the flawed transactions.

In that case, restore an older Automatic or Manual backup taken yesterday or day before or … until you find a file that does not exhibit this problem.

  • @SDO is there a date on the rogue transactions?

These are two of the "dates":

    225/225/203

    117/146/1901

I restored the backup from early this morning—when I saw no such errors—but the rogue transactions were still present when I reviewed the accounts.

@SDO did you try restoring from a backup from yesterday, or the day before as @UKR suggested. Sometimes it takes restoring backups going progressively back until you find one that doesn't have the error.

If that is not possible, or still doesn't solve the issue. I think your next step is to create new offline accounts and move all transactions, except the rogue ones, to the new accounts. If that works, then deactivate the old accounts and reactivate the new ones. When the new accounts are reconciled, then delete the old accounts.

Since restoring did not fix the error, I have resigned myself to moving the transactions to new offline accounts. (Given that some accounts have more than 20 years of transactions, it's quite fun—especially transfers between accounts.)

    Thanks for the help.

  • @SDO make sure to make a backup of your data file before you create the offline accounts and move transactions.
