Chase requiring a smartphone as of Sept 21,2025
I received my bank statement today and it said that customers must use a trusted device (i.e., only an enrolled smartphone) to send transfers. I've never felt safe logging on nor will I via a smartphone.
I've only used a PC to go to my accounts or do transfers I routinely transfer money among my various accounts etc. Now I'm wondering if I will have to change banks.
Just wondering what others are doing.

@BEL I think that really means that you need to use a trusted device to verify your identity with 2 factor identification, to make a transfer. Hopefully it doesn't mean you can only make transfers using your smartphone. That wouldn't work for me either.

Many of my "routine transfers" have been defined as automatic recurring transfers at the bank's website. For example, a transfer from BankA Checking to BankB Savings, every month on the 1st, is performed automatically by the bank. I don't have to remember doing it and I can't forget about it either.
In Quicken, a scheduled reminder auto-enters at the same time.
You might want to consider doing that, too, to reduce the number of manual sessions with your bank. For some transactions some of my banks already require that I confirm the transaction by means of a security code texted to my cellphone.
Alternatively, the code can be emailed to you. That function has to be set up in your bank account's user profile.0 -
I agree with CaliQkn, you should be able to continue doing your transfers on your PC on their website. But do make sure their website knows about your smartphone and can send a "is this really you?" check to that phone. It's their way of making sure someone didn't just hack your password — they'll need your website password AND your phone to successfully take money from you.

For me, it is pretty much wait and see. That is only after you brought it up and got me wondering about it.
I read that and pretty must dismissed it.
I seldom do any transfers, and it isn't something that would make me change banks for especially since I can see their point.
A web browser really isn't that secure, neither is email or text for that matter. Their own mobile app is probably about the most secure.
And like the others it seems to me they are saying that you will have to confirm it from the mobile app, not that you can't do the transfer from the web browser.
