Is there a way to group a Fidelity Cash Managment acct under the "Checking" account category (Q Mac)

I recently opened a Fidelity Cash Managment account. For me it is acting as an additional checking account. Currently, after importing the data from Fidelity, it is grouped under brokerage accounts and I do not see an option to change the account type to checking. Is there a way to recategorize this account so that it is grouped and totaled with the other checking accounts in my Quicken file? I am currently using Quicken Classic for Mac 8.2.

No, there is no way to change an account type and there is no way to move an account in the sidebar from one group to another. (Account types are reported by the financial institution; as you say, the cash management account is "acting like" a checking account, but it is not actually a checking account by legal/banking definitions.)

The developers said in the past that they wouldn't allow reorganization of the sidebar, but over time have softened on that and indicated that they will provide some ability to adjust the sidebar in the future. I believe they will start small, e.g. being able to re-order accounts within an existing group, before they build out the capability to move accounts between groups and create custom account groups. (For instance, I'd like to separate my retirement accounts into separate subgroups for tax-deferred and tax-free.)

There is an existing Idea thread requesting this functionality, and it has been marked as "Planned" by the developers.

We never know when specific planned features will actually be released.

Many thanks for the response and providing that information. Greatly appreciated. I definitely hope this feature will make its way into the product at some point in the near future.

just updated to Version 8.3.0 (Build 803.58807.100), hoping the "organize accounts in sidebar' would have some ability to group accounts. it doesn't allow you to create groups, or move Fid CMA to checking. It only allows you to order accounts within the existing groups, which we could all do before by adding a number or letter to the first of the name.

So - lots of hype for a worthless upgrade when we all want the ability to create groups with subtotals, like banktivity or fidelity or …./
