Tax planner changes are no longer being saved as of R64.25.

I did a quick test with R64.25 and my changes to Tax Planner settings appear to be saved correctly.

Can you give a step by step example of changes that are were not saved for you?

However I continue to see Tax Planner settings that are changed unexpectedly, especially when I install a new version of Quicken. Also importing my 2024 TurboTax data caused several of my Tax Planner settings to change. Is either of those scenarios what you are seeing?

today I noticed my estimated tax is significantly different from a few days ago. Many if not all projected estimates changed to zero from scheduled transactions. I can change them back to scheduled and it changes total tax but they go back to zero when I go back to summary.

I am not seeing this issue.

Please explain exactly what you are doing when "they go back to zero when I go back to Summary"

Also please review this discussion and see if the suggested fix works for you. No one has complained about this problem recently, but there is no indication that it has been fixed either.

The short version of the workaround is

The issue appears to be caused by some sort of initialization issue in the Tax Planner, and occurs when I visit a detail page that I have not used or viewed before. The entries that are affected are ones where I have selected Quicken Data as the source. The workaround is:

    1. Open the Tax Planner and note the tax due or Refund amount.
    2. Click on Details at the bottom of the list on the left.
    3. Go to the first Details page (Wages / Wages and salary - Self)
    4. Click repeatedly on Next Detail Item until you get to the bottom of the list, 80 times total.
    5. At some point you may see the Tax or Refund due change. This is an indication that you are experiencing this problem. Note the page you are on when the amount changes.
    6. When you have visited all the detail pages, fix the entries that have changed. For me this was Dividend Income, Other income / Taxable Social security, and Tax payments / Estimated taxes. To restore the original entries, all I had to do was change the selection from Quicken Data to User Entered and back.
    7. As a check, repeat steps 2-5 and make sure the Tax due or refund amount does not change.

Please let us know if this fixes this problem for you. Hopefully that will help the developers understand what is causing it.

This problem is similar to what you experienced in 2023.
Following the workaround, when I open some items the annual total is incorrect because the projected amount source is “no projected amount” rather than “scheduled bills and deposits.” I change the selection to scheduled bills and the tax due changes accordingly.

After I go through the entire list of items and make similar changes wherever I want to use scheduled amounts, the tax due is now correct.

I click on tax planner summary and the entire summary is correct.

Then I close the Tax Planner Summary and all my changes are lost, first on the home page and also when I reopen the Tax Planner.

I tried switching back and forth to User Entered and that had no effect.

The items affected are pension income, social security benefits, and withholding. Seemingly anywhere I have scheduled transactions.

    I hope this helps.

Aha. You have been opening the Tax Planner by clicking on a line item in the Home Page "Projected Tax" panel.

If you go to the Planning tab and select Tax Center then click on "Show Tax Planner" and make your changes, do you see the same result?

Yes, same result. I only changed one item.

This issue may be related to a problem in your data file that is preventing the Tax Planner data from being saved.

You could try backing up your data just in case, then going to File > Validate and Repair file and validating the file, then seeing if the problem persists.

If so, go to File > Copy or backup file, choose Create a copy or template, and give the copied file a new name. This file will be disconnected from any online activity. Check to see if the problem persists in the copy.

The final experiment I would try would be to create a new data file and add an offline checking account. Create a few tax related transaction in the new file then go to the tax planner and and see if changes still do not stick.

Please let us know what you find.

Validating seems to have fixed the problem.

    Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the update; I'm glad Validating resolved the issue.

If you search this forum, will find that there are other issues with the recent revisions to the Tax Planner.

Do you if there is any post on the tax planner on changing dates (2024 v 2025) so I can review and participate? I searched and couldn't find any, and my observation is same where if I change settings in the 2024 tax planner including TT import, it messes up the 2025 as well and vice versa. I don't want to muddy this post however.

I haven't seen a post on the TurboTax import messing up the Tax Planner settings. The 2024 TurboTax import was not working at all for several months this year; I just recently tried it and found that it worked but messed up other settings.

Here some other Tax Planner issues that as far as I know have not been resolved
