Windows Folders Quicken vs Quickdat.a
Windows 11 + Quicken Classic Deluxe
What is the difference in these two folders ?
I am cleaning up my computer:
- Quicken has files modified 2022 to 2025, October. I assume I should not delete any of these files
- Quickdat.a Backup folder date modified is 10/03/25 but the files date modified are from 1998 to 2010 - I assume I can delete all these files

RE; that 2nd folder, what's the name of your Q data file, the part immediately prior to .QDF.
That answer with provide further info about where the Quickdat.a folder came from … since it's not a standard Q folder.
I suspect that you CAN delete the Quickdat.a folder, but I'd like a bit more info to be sure. ALSO, you could always copy it to a USB/Thumb drive just in case.

Hey NotACPA …
Re RE: that 2nd folder, what's the name of your Q data file, the part immediately prior to .QDF.
File Name = MomFcit … Mom = my mother and Fcit = bank name abbreviated ….
There is a Red Box with a white letter Q inside the box

All the files in the Quickdat.a folder are dated 1998 to 2010
The Quickdat.a folder is probably related to previous versions of Quicken; see below for the file extensions

So - I'm going to wait until Monday and then delete all the files win the QuickDat.a folder
……………. sound about the right thing to do ?
Enjoy your weekend,
Tom

Here’s some notes I have. The main data file ends in .QDF. All Quicken versions prior to QW2010 store your data in a series of files all sharing the same filename but with different extensions like - .QDF .IDX, .QEL, .QPH and all 4 of those files were rolled into a single-file .QDF starting in 2010.
When you convert your data to a newer version Quicken saved your prior version data file in a sub-folder (called QyyFiles) under the Quicken Data folder. Ex: yy = year. Like I converted from 2004 so I have a folder named Q04Files. That's so if you want to go back to the old version you can reload your data.
I'm staying on Quicken 2013 Premier for Windows.
