Bank of America Discontinued Importing of QFX Files - CC-885 (QMAC)

The official statement is "Web Connect at BofA is dead, use Quicken Connect", and people have asked in this thread how Quicken Connect works in this case, so I think it fits into this discussion.

Deactivate the account for downloading transactions. When you import a QFX file with a different financial institution Quicken will allow you to link it to the existing Quicken account provided that Quicken account isn't currently connected to another financial institution.

After you deactivate the account on the Account Details > Online Services tab, you may need to go back to the General tab of the Account Details window and blank out / delete the financial institution there.

@Chris_QPW, thanks for the advice on switching connection types. I still am not brave enough to risk duplicating all my BofA transactions since 1995 by changing from QIF/QFX file downloads and imports to EWC+.
I'm hoping I'm wrong about the duplication, but I tried it on another account that I don't use much (a Citibank account) as a test. Prior to the download, I had reconciled everything. I did not deactivate the account first (sorry, I tried this before you posted that tip). The transition was smooth — it found the existing account with no problem. However, the most recent transaction was duplicated instead of being matched to one that had been entered via a QFX import. Because the existing transaction was already properly categorized and had a memo, I deleted the one that came via EWC+.
Concerns/Questions:
- Because I deleted the transaction EWC+ knew about, will Quicken have problems recognizing existing transactions the next time I download transactions via EWC+? In other words, will it duplicate the transaction again?
- This risk of duplication is my greatest concern with going to EWC+ for my BofA accounts. All my existing transactions are properly categorized and many have memo notes. I'd rather go through the pain of manual entry (memories of early Quicken, here!) than lose all that work. My BofA checking account has over 17k transactions.
- Has anyone with a similar situation with many years of transactions made the change from QFX downloads and imports to EWC+? If so, what has been your experience re: duplicates? How did you handle them?
@NanB I had another call back from BofA customer service and it doesn't sound like they are changing the policy to support QFX. Although I appreciate the contact, it's not been helpful. She seemed to imply all my transactions would be downloaded again. Hence, my concern about duplicates.
Thanks everyone for the help and any insights.

@RobotGrl If you've been reconciling your accounts then deleting the duplicate transactions is easy because none of them will be reconciled. And it's not going to duplicate all of your account transactions since it will only go back a certain amount of time. I don't have any BoA accounts to test it with but 3-6 months is typical. When I tried out my Fidelity accounts recently I got the last 2 years of transactions in most of my accounts and I thought that was unusually long.
If you delete downloaded transactions Quicken usually won't download them again.

I don't understand why we're still talking about this as it being a problem. I changed my Quicken connection 2 days after this BofA change occurred and I have had zero problems with my BofA accounts. Zero. No duplicate transactions, nothing lost. I always thought it was an inconvenience to login/download/import transactions to Quicken form BofA. Now I don't have to do that anymore as the transactions download automatically as they do for my credit cards and my other financial institutions. What BofA has done is not a problem.

@Jon thanks for the insights. I was concerned that deleting the newly downloaded transactions would cause sync issues, but it sounds like that is not the case. I have reconciled everything, so that shouldn't be a problem. Will report back when I get braver :-)

@NanB , No by the time I joined BofA Quicken Connect was to only option on the retail side of the bank. The private banking arm is still using QFX download btw.

@edmondoffermann thank you. I do have a couple of clients that are on the Private Banking arm, but their checking/savings accounts are what I download, and those still has the same issue.
