    I am sorry that I have not been in touch in the past. I have used Quicken for more than 20 years, and it is truly my life!!!

    I did the unthinkable, spilling a full cup of coffee on my laptop, when I was in a rush! Since I am 75, and was a Gen1 Fortran programmer back in the 70's, I am totally humbled by the current technology…. I just use the programs and apps and did not try to keep up with the languages.

    Now I have a new laptop, supplied by BestBuy, with help from the GeekSquad. Unforunately, they say they have all my data, but I CANNOT retrieve my old Quicken files! I have all the other files and photos, etc., but the QDF files are not here

    The GeekSquad tells me that Quicken handles things 'differently'!!!!

    I REALLY NEED THIS DATA! It is my lifeblood!

    Hello @holsworthk,

    Thank you for sharing your experience, though I am sorry to hear about this unfortunate situation.

    After reviewing your products internally, it doesn't appear that you have a subscription to Quickens Online Backup. That would've been the easiest fix, but I do have some other thing we can check.

    • Did the Geek Squad confirm that they were unable to recover any of your Quicken data files?
    • Did you have any backups of your data saved to a cloud service like Dropbox or OneDrive?
    • Did you possibly save backups to an external drive or USB stick?

    Essentially, we just need to determine if you had Quicken data saved anywhere other than on the old laptop. If you did, then we can restore it from that location.

    The typical (default?) path for Quicken data files is C:\Users\username\Documents\Quicken\ where username is your actual Windows username

    Where, on the old computer, were your Quicken data files stored? What is/was the actual path name?

    Did the Geeksquad return the old computer's harddisk to you, enclosed in a box with USB connectivity? If so, you should be able to search the old drive for your \Quicken\ folders and *.QDF files

    If your old laptop was a Windows 10 OS, and you didn't change any defaults, automatic backups are probably on a cloud server. Look in C:\Users\[username]\OneDrive\Documents\Quicken\BACKUP.
