Batch editing transactions with filters

I would like to be able to perform the following within a given investing account:

  1. Locate all transactions which have "Bought" as the Action.
  2. Further filter those transactions to only those which have "Reinvest" in the memo field.

I am able to perform the above with an investment report. Now the part I can't figure out:

3. Batch change all of the Actions to "Reinvest - Income Reinvested". I have tried this manually on a couple transactions and just changing the Action works as I want. But there are hundreds of them and I want to change them via a batch command.

There isn’t a way to do this, and it would be quite difficult to implement it. There are a few security actions like changing from buy to reinvest that make sense but in general in most cases there isn’t a way to go from one security action to another.

Some brokerages, in the event of a "Dividend Reinvested" transaction download two separate transactions:

    • Cash received for Dividend Income
    • Shares bought for amount of Cash received

If that were true in your account, making your requested transaction edits would create a difference in the account's cash balance.

So, is your brokerage downloading two transactions?
Or are they downloading incorrect transactions? In which case I'd speak with the brokerage …
