Quicken Mac Classic 8.3 hangs at launch

When I launch Quicken, it never even shows up in the menu bar. It just goes into “app not responding.” It then starts eating all the system memory, eventually consuming more than 30GB, and eventually crashes the system.

I tried re-installing; moving my Library/Application Support/Quicken folder to the trash; starting up while holding down the shift key. None of these make any difference.

This just started in the last week. I suspect that there is some corrupted app setting somewhere, but I have no idea where to look.

The AI “assistant” is utterly useless, and as far as I can tell, there is no route into actual human Quicken support other than this community forum.

There are also preference files for Quicken:

    Library/Preferences/com.quicken.Quicken.plist
    Library/Preferences/com.quicken.QuickenInstaller.plist
    Library/Preferences/com.quicken.QuickenUtility.plist

You might also want to delete the cache folders:

    Library/Caches/com.quicken.Quicken
    Library/Caches/com.quicken.QuickenInstaller
    Library/Caches/com.quicken.QuickenUtility

@Neil Faiman Actually, Quicken offers both live chat support and telephone support. Chat support is 5 am - 5 pm Pacific time/8 am- 8 pm Eastern time every day. Phone support is 5 am - 5 pm Pacific time/8 am- 8 pm Eastern Monday to Friday:

On the Quicken Support web page, scroll down and look of the blue "Contact us" button to see these options.

There was a note on their Support page that they were having problems with the ir phone lines today, and suggesting to use chat support instead. Chat support reopens tomorrow morning; for phone support, you'd need to wait until Monday.

The problem seems to have been Library/Caches/com.quicken.Quicken.

Since that had grown to 79GB, it was probably a good idea to clean it out anyways. 😀

    Thank you!
