Quicken is Creating and Autofilling Categories When Downloaded Transactions are Accepted

Quicken is autofilling a category that does not exist in the Memorized Payee List for a specific downloaded transaction when accepted. In my case it is autofilling Medical:OTC for most downloaded transactions and entering it into the Memorized Payee List. I delete these saved entries and it will repeat the error. This category does exist for a few payees but not many. As an example Wegman's Market is a common downloaded transaction that I accept Quicken will autofill the category as Medical:OTC. It should be Groceries. Quicken then saves Medical:OTC to the Wegman's Memorized Payee List. I correct the incorrect category and delete Medical:OTC from the Wegman's Memorized Payee list. The next time I accept a Wegman's downloaded transaction the category is autofilled as Medical:OTC not Groceries and Medical:OTC is entered into the Wegman's Memorized Payee List.

    In your Memorized Payee List, is there a correct entry for Wegman's with Category = Groceries?
    If so, is this entry marked as "Lock and leave this entry unchanged …"?

    BTW, are downloaded transactions renamed to an incorrect Payee Name? If so, I would suspect a bad Renaming Rule which needs to be corrected or deleted.

    Also make sure that Edit>Preferences>Downloaded transactions has the "Automatically apply Quickens suggested name to payee" unchecked. That option has caused issues for years and should be retired.

    Given that the problem is categories, not the payee name. The matching to the memorized payee list is by the payee's name. If it doesn't match, then Quicken will look at this preference and make its own guess at the category.

    Edit → Preference → Automatically categorize transactions

    Make sure this preference is off.
