How to catch up investment accounts, approximate values, periodically
I have several investment accounts which are very out of date with reality. I don't need to keep the quicken trx in sync with the brokerage but would like to update to the approx current value maybe once a month or once a quarter.
I'd guess that I could make adjusting entries into the investment account's registry in quicken. Those accounts use XIn and XOut for incoming and outgoing transfers, header for those is Action, but then I'd need to assign a source for the value change as it expects some other account in quicken to be involved.
Is there a tidy, simple way to enter +$5000, or -$5000, into an accounts registry so that I can keep them a bit more up to date? I realize I'd have to make an initial adjusting entry.
Note, I use an older version of quicken H&B (2013).

You should be able to use the XIn and XOut transactions with the source being this same account.
If there are any securities in the account, I’d be inclined to sell them making this a cash only account.

Another thing you could do would be to go to the Account Details and change the Tracking Method to Simple. This will update the share counts each time you connect to the brokerage but not download all the transaction details.
Correction: Simple mode is not available in Quicken 2013. In your case I would use the 1 share/ adjust the share price method.

Using the same account as the source, wouldn't the value change be a wash? I'll try it though.
I guess I could create a holding with one share, and adjust the value of that one share to push the account total value around? Or better, create a new holding every time that I want to catch up the value, with a positive or negative share value? Tho I'm not sure that quicken will allow a negative share value?

XIn XOut to the same account works. Thanks everyone for the tips.
