Wrong info on stock split

Coming from Fidelity, if that makes a difference. And it might :)

This also might clear up at the close of day. But in case it does not, looking to find out how to correct this to make it right.

Stock split today, 5 to 1. The new share price is correct, but the number of shares is the original and not the 5X number and the Cost per Share is for ONE of the original and should be 1/5th of that. This is causing me to show a big loss based on just these two numbers.

I do not see any way to edit this?

Again, if tonight's after market download does not correct this, then how do I?

Thanks.

if a “stock split” transaction with the 5:1 rate does not download by tomorrow, you’ll have to enter it manually.

Thanks, but unsure exactly what to enter? That was the question. I did not know there was a "stock split" transaction so will have to go look at that.

    Thanks for the pointer.

Yes, that's what I was saying… enter a "Stock Split" transaction…. click the "Type" drop-down for an investment transaction and you'll see it there… 4th from the bottom.

OK, @MontanaKarl I did the stock split and it adjusted the share price accurately, but it did not increase my number of shares. Still 1x instead of 5x. How do I fix that?

Jeez. there was a placeholder dated 2018!!!! At the top of transactions with NO NOTICE that limited the amount of shares to keep it the same. Delete and all fine. But give me a break.

    • NO notice a placeholder exists
    • Dated 2018 but created today?
    • And incorrectly deleting 80% of my existing shares on a 5 to 1 split?

    WHAT is somebody thinking?

These things typically would have resolved (without user action) in the day or two after the split. Quicken likely received your current share balance from Fidelity today, but hadn't yet received the split transaction from Fidelity. Thus the placeholder to adjust your share balance. And as you've seen before, placeholders are placed at the beginning of the account.

@jacobs A placeholder dated 2018 and NO indication or alert that it has "arrived" is unfathomable for me. But…

    So it all gets stranger.

QWIN picked this up last night perfectly. Need to do nothing.

On QMAC I deleted the placeholder and did a 5 to 1 split and all was just as expected.

Woke up in the middle of the night and thought to check. Baaad idea. Did OSU on QMAC and a new transaction ADDING shares to this split occurred. So now I had too many shares in this stock after the split and everything off by a lot. So I deleted the split transaction thinking that would fix it and it did not. Nothing I tried worked. Even creating the split again and an OSU. So I restored from last backup. Which in itself was a new experience as I had not done that in Mac before. Had to resync to the cloud as it stated only one file can be synced, etc. Had never seen that before.

OK, QMAC now looking right, OSU and the add shares back. I deleted it and all is correct. You are right. If I accepted the Placeholder literally as it said "selling shares" from the original buy nd then accepted this add shares that would have been right as well. I still would have had to do the split in QMAC.

Now, knowing there is "some" interaction between QMac and QWin, went to Qwin and OSU. Recall QWin got transactions last night and was "on the money" so to speak. But now ALSO got this add shares new transaction which would throw it off. And no placeholder there. So my inclination would be delete this add shares which is not needed for correct balance.

What are thoughts on that add shares transaction which appears to be handled differently in Win and Mac?

I’ve always found QMac deficient in handling stock splits. QWIn did it right every time. QMac has never automatically done the right thing, and it never seems to get attention from the developers. So I just live with it and do the manual edits…

@MontanaKarl Have to agree. And now I know a lot more about the pitfalls.
