ADD #MON# WILDCARD to Memo

When I enter utility bills I put the month in the memo.

Would be great to be able to put #MMM# in the memo and have Quicken convert that to the 3-letter month format.

My memorized bills with #MMM# in the memo would capture the month of the expense and put it into the memo.

I like this concept generally, but I don’t think doing it as suggested would prove useful. If all it did was translate the month of the transaction date to a three letter month abbreviation, how would that be helpful? A transaction of January 4 is obviously in January; adding “JAN” to the Memo doesn’t seem to add much clarity.

I frequently use months in my Memo fields, to identify what period the transaction actually covers. But it’s complicated, because some bills cover the preceding month (electric, for example), some bills cover part of the prior month and part of the current month (cable/Internet), and some bills are for the upcoming month (subscription). Some bills are for a calendar month, while others split two months. To be useful for me, a Quicken tool would need to be able to accommodate not only #MMM# but also #MMM-# and #MMM+# and the combination of them, like:

    #MMM-# - #MMM#

which would translate into “Dec - Jan”.

I think coming up with a system useful to most users covering most circumstances would be a more complex undertaking than might be worthwhile, considering many of the other feature needs in Quicken Mac. Just my $.02…
