Shortcut for Printing Checks (Q Mac)

In ancient versions of Quicken, there was an option to swap Command+P from Print Reports to Print Checks. It was a simple toggle. I realize many people don't print checks and I only due it occasionally, but I print checks far more often than I print reports. Can we bring back that functionality?

On a Mac, you can change or create your own keyboard shortcuts in any program; it's built into macOS! 😁

Apple has buried functionality like this so deep in many levels of settings that it can be hard to find. It's not complicated and it only takes a few seconds when you know where to look, but I always have to hunt around a little to see where they've tucked it away in their latest reorganization of settings! Here are instructions for macOS Sequoia; there may be minor differences if you're on a different operating system.

    • Open System Settings from the Apple menu
    • Select Keyboard
    • Click the Keyboard Shortcuts button
    • Click App Shortcuts
    • On the right side (under All Applications), click the + icon
    • From the All Applications dropdown menu, find and select Quicken
    • In the Menu title field, type the name of the menu command you want to assign a keyboard shortcut to; it must be typed exactly as it appears in the application. In this case, "Print Checks…" For the ellipsis three dots (…), press Option+;
    • Click in the Keyboard shortcut field and press the keyboard shortcut you want assigned to this menu command. In this case: Command+P
    • Click Done
    • Immediately check Quicken — you don't even have to quit the application if it's running — to verify that the keyboard command you created shows up in the menu.

You can add other keyboard shortcuts for Quicken, or for other apps, or system-wide, in the same way. And if you want to delete one you've created, find it in the same place and press the minus key icon to remove it.

Thanks for the tip; I appreciate you taking time to share in such detail. I'll use it, but would still like to see it built in to QMac.

    Writing and printing checks (quicken.com)

is the official Help text for creating check transactions and printing paper checks in Quicken Classic Mac.
Once check transactions have been queued up (marked as "to be printed"), selecting File > Print Checks will start the printing process.

As far as reassigning Cmd+P to Print Checks is concerned, I'd rather use a different (available) command character. Imagine, what if you really want to print a report and Cmd+P has been reassigned?

BTW, for me as a Q Windows user, File > Print Checks has no Ctrl keyboard shortcut assigned, but there's an alternative:
Alt-FC will start the File Menu and execute Print Checks.
I also have an optional one-click icon I can put into the Quicken Toolbar, to start the Write and Print Checks process.

    Fair enough.

I'll just say that in my personal opinion: I don't think there's much chance they will add a preference to toggle whether Command-P prints reports or checks. (1) Fewer and fewer people print checks, or many checks. (2) Of those who print checks, the number who print checks more than reports is even smaller. (3) Most people are pretty used to using Command-P to print, and I don't envision them creating a toggle to deviate from standard Mac app behavior. (4) For users like you who want to add or change and command key shortcuts, that capability is already available because it's built in to macOS — which wasn't the case back in the legacy Quicken Mac decades ago. (5) The developers have a long list of features to do things which can't be done at all currently, and won't spend time creating tweaks to provide alternates for something which already works.

But anyone who wants to see this feature added should be sure to add their vote above and comments below; if this gains enough votes, it will be forwarded to the developers for consideration.
