QFX auto import not working

Windows 11 Quicken R65.29

When receiving QFX file in Download directory, file is not executed by Quicken. Double clicking on it does work and imports transactions, It`s just the Auto execution that doesn`t work.

This behavior started when I migrated from an old PC running Win 10 to a New HP Omnibook 5 running WIn 11.

In your browser or in Windows Control Panel settings itself, what is the file type association with QFX files?

Opening your downloads folder with Windows File Explorer, locate one of the QFX files.
Right-click the file name, select "Open with" and look for "Choose default program". Select Quicken from the list and also select "Use this app for all QFX files"
Once set properly, Quicken should be invoked (and started, if it's not running already) to process the QFX file.

It reads like you expect Quicken to automatically import a Web Connect (.QFX) file just because it was downloaded.

I've never known Quicken to do that. Now, clicking on the file when the browser shows that it has been downloaded and offering to either take you to the file's location (open file explorer) or open the file,

(screenshot from Chrome) that would be an issue with the Window settings as suggested by UKR.

@splasher and @UKR, That is how I read it too and I thought this [Auto execution as stated in the OP] was a feature of Premier that is missing from my Deluxe? I was going to ask you folks if this was the case.

AFAIK, it's a feature of the browser which you use. Some browsers like Firefox can be configured to automatically open a downloaded file with a specific application (like Quicken for QFX files). Others you may have to double-click the file after download completes.

The file association (QFX) with Quicken was done and the fact that when I said that double clicking it would import the data speak for it self.

I'm using Quicken since version 1.0 and I don't remeber exactly when the Auto run QFX file after download was implemented but I can officially confirm that it works fine with my Win 10 PC running same Quicken version. Seems that Win 11 has a different setup to be disovered to allow it.

Interestingly, I noticed this feature quit working rather recently. But, in my case double clicking also fails. My only recourse has been to use the import function under the file menu. The windows "open with" parameter is set to Quicken Windows as it has always been. I have been using Windows 11 for some time and I'm using Version R65.29 of Quicken. Also, using Brave (Chrome) browser.

There were updates associated with the Fidelity fixes last year, but I cannot correlate the loss of function specifically with those updates, though that certainly could be the case as I don't typically download QFX files everyday. Interestingly, when I double click a qfx file, it initiates Windows install shield (quicken version) asking to wait while windows configures Quicken, which leads to a dialog box that says, "There are Quicken components currently open, and can not be uninstalled. Please close Quicken and try uninstalling again." With the only option to click the "OK" button. Seems a little radical.

The autorun feature worked as a charm for may years in my case. File association was known and is still in place for Quicken to "always" run the QFX and import data automatically. For those in doubt, this is a fact. Now since the file association in file explorer is ok when the file arrives, I do not see the browser impact. Double clicking on the file works. PDF files do open automatically. So, my assumption is pointing more towards Windows 11 which is this case is the only different element.

Yeah, I have no problem with PDF (or other file types, at least so far) files, either auto run or double click. You are probably right that it is a Quicken incompatibility with Windows 11.

Thanks to "Splasher" as I finally found the solution. My problem was browser related, in this case Chrome. As Splasher stated:

I was making the file association within Windows file explorer. What we need to do is once the file is downloaded the first time, you have to click the arrow pointing down on the Chrome upper right side (Downloaded files) then right click the file and then select "Always open files of this type". Just one time. All other downloads get executed.
