Does anyone have suggestions for using categories on taxable transactions that will align with turbo tax data input? IE i would like to set up categories and sub categories that give me a tax report in the planning tool that aligns with turbo tax input screens.

The key is to use Categories that have the correct Tax line items. To see the tax line items, go to Tools > Category List. You can click on the header of the Tax Line Item column to sort the list in line item order.

The built in investment Categories that begin with _underscores have these set already. These cannot be changed.

Many of the built-in income categories also have tax line items assigned, but for other income sources, such as Social Security and spouse income, you must create your own Categories and use the appropriate tax line items. Likewise, there are built-in Categories for many tax deductible expenses.

For other Categories you can right click on the Category and edit the assignments.

For retirement accounts that have transfers for contributions and distributions, click on the gear at the top right of the account and select Edit account details. Then click on Tax Schedule to set the assignments.

For traditional IRAs and 401(k)s, set Transfers out to "1099-R:Total IRA taxable distrib." If you don’t see the Tax Schedule button at the bottom of the Account Details dialog, click on View in the top menu and select “Tabs to show”. In the list of tabs, select Planning.

Using the correct Tax line items will also feed your Quicken data to the correct sections of the Tax Planner.
