Quicken and Proton VPN

I’m using Proton VPN for the usual reasons and connect to a US server. I’m US based as well, and my FIs are also US based. Quicken mostly seems to work ok; I can download transactions, etc., from my FIs. But Quicken is now failing to update security prices. If I disable the VPN, it works fine. This seems kind of stupid; the transactions and other information about my finances is confidential. The closing price of a US stock is clearly not, yet this is what is being blocked when I use a VPN.

    Hi @scott abbey,

Thanks for sharing your experience. I understand how inconvenient it can be when updates work fine without a VPN but fail with it enabled.

Quicken relies on connecting to servers to download security prices and other data. Some VPN configurations can block or reroute specific connections that Quicken uses for price updates, which is why it works normally when the VPN is disabled.

Recommendation: To avoid these connection issues, Quicken recommends temporarily disabling the VPN while running updates. For more details, see Quicken’s article on troubleshooting cloud sync errors

Possible Workaround: If Proton VPN supports split tunneling or app-specific exclusions, you could configure Quicken to bypass the VPN while keeping the VPN enabled for everything else.

    I hope this helps!
